Dog-Friendly Activities in Australia & the South Pacific

This is a fabulous dogs allowed beach. Dogs can swim in the surf and run along the gorgeous sandy beach and afterwards you can go for coffee, where the cafe owners put out fresh daily bowls of cool water for the dogs.

Bring your dog to Altona Dog Beach for some off-leash fun. Your salty dog will love frolicking on the sand, going for a swim, and socializing with other dogs. Open daily.

Leashed dogs are welcome to explore the western end of Whiting Beach in Yamba, AU. The sandy beach is an awesome spot to take Fido for a leisurely stroll or cool off in the water. There are only small waves as this beach is at the mouth of the Clarence River. Keep Fido away from the rock wall, which is the main swimming area.

The Groynes is a securely fenced park with a number of different areas including spring fed streams, trees and open spaces and three agility courses. A BBQ and picnic area is also within the park, although dogs must be leashed in this area. Car parking available.

Bottle Lake Forest Park is a pet-friendly recreation area in Christchurch, NZ. This popular mountain biking spot offers more than 1000 hectares of of pine forest. Fido is welcome to enjoy the walking and biking trails through the beach and forest, but must dogs be kept on a leash. Please clean up after your pets.

9 Degrees Enogorra is a pet-friendly bouldering gym north of Brisbane in Enoggera, AU. Well-behaved dogs can join their owners for a climbing session at this fully air-conditioned gym, as long as they are leashed, comfortable in loud settings and don't interfere with other people's climbing. Bring a toy to keep your pooch distracted and your own waste bags to clean up any accidents that may happen.

St. Albans Park in Christchurch, NZ, is a pet-friendly haven perfect for dog lovers. With spacious grassy areas, shady trees, a splash-worthy stream, and designated off-leash zones, it's ideal for strolls, playtime, or a picnic with your pup.

The Busselton Museum in Busselton, WA is pet friendly. Leashed small dogs are welcome to join their owners inside the Heritage listed Old Butter Factory and around the grounds to sniff out exhibits on maritime history and more. Larger dogs are just allowed outside on the grass.

This pet-friendly outdoor adventure destination welcomes you and your pup to enjoy their trails outside of their winter operating period, or you can purchase a Dog Day Pass or Dog Season Pass to enjoy a cross-country ski or snowshoe outing with your favorite four-legged friend. Cronulla Ferries in Cronulla, AU, is a pet-friendly ferry service that operates scheduled voyages from Cronulla Wharf to Bundeena, as well as a variety of national park cruises. When you arrive at Bundeena, you are free to explore the area and beach with your pooch, who is even allowed to play off-leash on the sand during off-peak hours. Cronulla Ferries operates trips every hour. Or, you can hire a boat for a party and private cruise instead.

The Rocks Market is an iconic dog-friendly market held each weekend in Sydney, AU. Leashed dogs can join their owners for a stroll along the stalls on Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., where they'll find a variety of vendors selling everything from great food to art, design, music, and wellness products.

McClelland's Sculpture Park in Langwarrin South, AU is a pet-friendly outdoor gallery. Leashed dogs are welcome to join their owners on a self-guided tour of the outdoor space at McClelland's Gallery, which sprawls over nearly 40 acres and includes sculptures of a big metal gnome, a huge dinosaur and more.

Long Tunnel Extended Gold Mine is a pet-friendly former gold mine in Walhalla, VIC. Leashed dogs who don't get claustrophobic can join their owners on a tour deep underground to see a historic gold mine that commenced operations in 1862. There's also a blacksmith and museum on the premises.

The Dunes Golf Links is a pet-friendly golf course in Rye, AU. Located on Morning Peninsula south of Melbourne, golfers and their dogs are invited to stop for a game at this spectacular 27-hole course surrounded by greenery and only a sliced shot away from the Bass Strait. The Dunes is also home to The Cups Course, “Australia’s best 9-hole golf course,” a good challenge for golfers of all levels.

CityCat is a pet-friendly ferry service in Brisbane, AU. Leashed furry friends are welcome to join their owners on board if they wear a muzzle and remain outside the ferry cabin. Travelers are only allowed to bring two dogs on board with them. Please refer to their website for a list of terminals.

The Styx Mill Conservation Reserve offers a securely fenced area with two small ponds, lot of trees, and wide open spaces. Off road parking and toilets available.

Templeton's Reserve has great open spaces with plenty of room for pups to run. There are no gates or fences. The large pond is not suitable for swimming, but it is easy to walk around it.

Fido is welcome to join you as you explore and learn at The Farm! It is home to Three Blue Ducks, The Bread Social, The Garden Shed, and The Produce Store. The Farm requests that you keep your four-legged-friend on a lead at all times, and out of the indoor areas of its restaurant. The Farm at Byron Bay is open seven days a week from 7am to 4pm.
