This pet-friendly property offers a combined 5.3 miles of easy, moderate or difficult trails on the East and West peninsulas which are connected by a pedestrian bridge. Explore the scenic shoreline, swift tidal water, quiet coves, and salt marshes. Dogs must be leashed at all times at Ovens Mouth.

Clough Point Preserve within Westport Island in Wiscasset, ME, is a small but beautiful dog-friendly spot featuring forested trails, vernal pools and scenic views of the Sheepscot River. Trails range from easy to moderate, making it a peaceful place for a walk with your leashed pup.

Vaughan Woods is a pet-friendly nature preserve in Hallowell, ME. Bring Fido along for a walk outside on the Corniche Loop Trail, Brook Trail, or Rice Pines Trail, varying in difficulty and distances from 0.5 miles to 2 miles. Dogs must be leashed and cleaned up after.

You can view it online but really should plan on purchasing one (for a nominal fee) to carry when you hike away from the Village. You’ll be charged boat fare for your dog and are expected to dispose of its waste as in a city.

Leashed dogs are welcome at pet-friendly Doubling Point Lighthouse in Arrowsic, ME. Established in 1898, this lighthouse on the Kennebec River features a scenic trail that is well worth a visit with your leashed pup. Please bring dog waste bags to carry out when you depart the private property and refer to their website upon arrival.

Androscoggin River Bicycle Path in Brunswick, ME invites Fido to enjoy a leashed walk while taking in scenic views. This pet-friendly paved trail goes from the Cooks Corner area to Brunswick and is about 2.6-miles long. The road is plowed and sanded in the wintertime.

Damariscotta Lake State Park is a dog-friendly public area in Jefferson, ME. The centerpiece of the park is the lake itself, a large freshwater expanse of water that is popular among recreational boat users. Surrounding the lake are a few beaches and picnic areas. Pets are welcome to join their owners around the park and on the beaches, although no pets are allowed on State Park beaches between April 1 and September 30. Thorne Head Preserve in Bath, ME, is a pet-friendly coastal nature area featuring scenic trails through forests, wetlands and shoreline habitats. The Kennebec River Rail Trail is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors.
