Dog Friendly Hiking Trails in Conifer, CO

Lair o’ the Bear Park in Idledale, CO, is a pet-friendly favorite of visitors and families due to its abundance of picnic tables, charcoal grills and proximity to Bear Creek for fishing. Leashed pets are welcome and the Bear Creek Trail is 12 miles roundtrip.

Leashed dogs are welcome on the ridge and Triceratops Trail at Dinosaur Ridge, a pet-friendly trail in Morrison, CO. Dogs are not allowed in the gift shop or Exhibit Hall. Dinosaur Ridge features a world-famous dinosaur track site with over 300 dinosaur footprints for you and your friends and family to explore!

Elk Meadow Park in Evergreen, CO, encompasses 107 acres of open space and offers two dog-friendly hiking trails. Take the trail from Elk Meadow Lewis Ridge Trailhead and admire beautiful mountain scenery and herds of elk. Elk Meadow Stagecoach Trailhead, accessible from 32281 Stagecoach Blvd, is best suited to adventurous and experienced hikers. This 4.7-mile hike leads to stunning views from 9,708-foot Bergen Peak. Much of the park is not fenced so Fido should be leashed during your visit.

Leashed dogs are welcome on Beaver Brook Trail, a strenuous, pet-friendly hike on the south rim of Clear Creek Canyon in Golden, CO. Even though the trail isn't far from Denver, it's difficult enough that Fido will think he's on a rural, backcountry hike. The trail is not a loop, but is 10-miles one-way with limited trail markers. Please remember your starting point, and bring a map, food and water on this difficult hike.

Mount Falcon Park is a dog-friendly recreational area in Indian Hills and Morrison, CO. Leashed pups are welcome on 12.2 miles of trails, including the 1.7-mile Turkey Trot Trail which connects the two towns. The park is open daily from one hour before sunrise to one hour after sunset.

Leashed dogs are welcome to join their owners while they exercise at Red Rocks Amphitheatre & Park trails. Red Rocks Park is a pet-friendly Denver Mountain Park and has two trails that are completely within the park, Trading Post Trail and Geologic Overlook Trail, both restricted to pedestrians only. The Trading Post Trail is 1.4 miles in length, and goes through spectacular rock formations, valleys and a natural meadow. Some of the terrain is rough, so hiking boots/shoes are recommended. Also, hikers should be prepared for adverse weather conditions as the weather can change very quickly. The Red Rocks Trail runs through the east side of the park and is a multi-use trail for hiking, horseback riding and mountain biking. Dogs must be on a leash at all times and owners must clean up all waste. Dogs are not allowed at Red Rocks Amphitheatre during performances; call (720) 865-2494 before driving to the park to avoid disappointment.

Sloan's Lake Park is a 177-acre, dog-friendly area in Denver, CO. The park is the second largest of Denver's parks, located in the Highlands neighborhood. It's bordered by a 2.6-mile trail for walking, jogging and walking your pooch on a leash. Fishing, boating and water skiing are allowed on the lake and the annual Colorado Dragon Boat Festival is held there, too.

Rosalie Trail in Bailey, CO, is a 12.4 mile hike in Pike National Forest that will take about 9-10 hours to complete with Fido. Most of this pet-friendly trail will lead you through lush, dense forest fed by creeks. There are sections of the trail that will take you above the timberline where afternoon storms can blow in. Fido will have to be leashed as most of the trail is in a wilderness area.

Plymouth Mountain Trail in Littleton, CO, is a 6.4 mile hike that will take about 5 to 6 hours to complete with Fido. There are seven interconnected, pet-friendly trails of varying lengths to choose from. Keep in mind that slopes that face east and south can be hot in the summer time.

Clear Creek Trail is a 20-mile pathway extending from Wheat Ridge to Golden, CO. This popular dog-friendly trail can be accessed from the entrance to Wheat Ridge Greenbelt Open Space, the parking lot at 3862 Youngfield Service Rd in Golden, or joined at a midway point from Prospect Park. Designed as a natural recreation trail for hikers and bikers, visitors can follow a fully paved route, or take numerous natural surface side trails. Clear Creek Trail provides a continuous scenic corridor to explore with Fido. Any water-loving canine will jump at the chance to swim as sections of the trail wind past Clear Creek, Prospect Lake and West Lake.

The Apex Trail in Golden, CO, is a pet-friendly, 4.7-mile hike in Jefferson County Open Space that will take about 4 hours to complete with Fido. However, the gravel trail is very steep and narrow, so it's only appropriate for dogs (and humans) that are experienced hikers.

Bear Creek Lake Trail Loop is a 9.4 mile dog-friendly hike which begins near Morrison, CO. Dogs should be leashed on the trail and hikers can expect to encounter other visitors who may be hiking, fishing or horseback riding. The trail is moderately challenging and is best hiked between April and October.

Meadowlark Trail Loop is a pet-friendly, 6-mile loop trail in Jefferson County Open Space in Littleton, CO. This trail is for hikers and will take you through a sandy meadow before heading down to Plymouth Creek where it crosses the creek. Enjoy a picnic lunch at the shelter near the trailhead.

The High Line Canal Trail (Waterton Canyon) is a 5-mile hike in Chatfield State Park that will take about 3 hours to complete with Fido. This casual, pet-friendly hike in Littleton, CO, allows for great views of Denver, solitude, and a glimpse into the past from sunrise to sunset. Fido must be kept on a leash, and you will also need to watch out for free-roaming cattle along the canal.

Fido is welcome to join you on a hike along Mount Evergreen Loop, a dog-friendly trail near Evergreen, CO. This 4 mile trail is a moderately challenging route which should take 2.5 hours to complete. April to November is the best time to hike this trail, and dogs are permitted to be off leash in some areas.
