Dog Friendly Hiking Trails in Fowler, CO

Fido is welcome to join you in exploring Stratton Open Space, a dog-friendly natural spot in Colorado Springs. This 318-acre open space features beautiful views, miles of hiking trails for owners and pups to explore together. Please clean up after your dog while visiting. Note that the South Suburban Reservoir is closed to the public.

Leashed dogs are welcome at Garden of the Gods, a pet-friendly, Registered National Natural Landmark in Colorado Springs, CO. Fido can join you as you hike along the beautiful trails through the red rock formations and enjoy the stunning views and landscape. Pets are also allowed inside the Visitor and Nature Center, but must be kept out of the indoor dining space. Please clean up after Fido during your visit.

Fido is welcome at Red Rock Canyon Open Space, a dog-friendly natural space in Colorado Springs. Leashed pups are welcome on most trails, and the Upper and Lower Dog Loops are designated as off-leash areas (but pease be advised that this is an unfenced space). In the winter, many of the trails make for good cross-country skiing.

Castlewood Canyon State Park in Franktown, CO, is dog friendly. Several hikes range from mild to moderate here, but the 5.6-mile trail to the canyon is the most popular. And though Castlewood Canyon is less grand than the Grand Canyon, it is worth the 5-hour round-trip hike. Please note Fido is not allowed on the East Canyon Preservation Area trail.

Bring Fido along to explore the Historic Arkansas Riverwalk, a dog-friendly trail in Pueblo, CO. There is a well maintained walking path along the river with plenty of grass and shade around for you and your pup. Dogs must be on-leash and bags are provided for clean up.

Clayton Lake State Park is a pet-friendly state park in Clayton, NM. It features a 170-acre recreational reservoir and a fossil trackway with dinosaur footprints. You and your pooch can enjoy the rolling grasslands, volcanic rocks, and sandstone bluffs that make up the landscape. The park area was a stopover point for travelers along the Cimarron Cutoff of the Santa Fe Trail.

Located inside Garden of The Gods is the dog-friendly Rock Ledge Ranch Historic Site, a living history farm and museum in Colorado Springs, CO. Although pups are not allowed inside the historic buildings, they can join you for walks along the hiking trails. You may have your furry friend roam off-leash east of the bridges, but your dogs must be leashed west of the bridges (in the central area of the Ranch).

Spruce Mountain is a large, tree-covered mesa which features over eight and a half miles of recreational trails with easy access and parking. Dogs must be cleaned up after and on a leash during their hike at Spruce Mountain Open Space. Enjoy a choice flat trails for a leisurely walk or steep trails if you're looking for a challenge and some exercise for your canine companion.

Eleven Mile Canyon Recreation Area is a dog-friendly destination in Florissant, CO. Dogs on a leash no longer than six feet are allowed to explore the forested, lush and rocky canyon and take in the river as it "twists and crashes against huge boulders lining the canyon floor." There is an entrance fee, and hiking, picnicking and camping are all available within this popular recreation area.

Set in the rolling foothills of Pikes Peak, Bear Creek Regional Park is a dog-friendly outdoor space in Colorado Springs. While dogs are not allowed on the nature trails, there are plenty of regional trails open to leashed dogs. The Regional Park is 545-acres and features a mix of active and passive recreation such as picnic pavilions, playing fields, hiking opportunities, the El Paso County Veterans Monument, a large dog park and more.

Mount Cutler is a dog-friendly hiking trail in Colorado Springs, CO, that is perfect for experienced and inexperienced hikers. The trail boasts excellent mountain views and at the summit you can view Seven Falls. There is a creek where Fido can cool off following the trek. The parking lot can be congested, so arrive early.

Tunnel Drive Trail Head is a dog-friendly hiking trail in Cañon City, CO. The trail is flat with a moderate incline at the beginning. There is an excellent view of the Royal Gorge and Arkansas River as you walk. The 2-mile trail will take you through three tunnels within the granite peaks.

Next to the Falls, a 224-step stairway leads to a system of trails that will take you onto Inspiration Point with a breath-taking view of Colorado Springs and the great plains beyond. Wildlife is everywhere, including hummingbirds, rainbow trout and the rare, waterfall nesting- American Dipper. Fido can join you on a hike at Red Rocks Trail #708, an easy, dog-friendly trail in Woodland Park, CO. Enjoy the walk through ponderosa pines that ends at a photo-worthy sandstone formation. Leashed dogs are welcome along the entire trail, but some sections may be designated as off-leash as well.

Dogs are welcome on this moderate-to-challenging 6.5-mile round-trip hike near Divide, CO. The pet-friendly trail begins at Horsethief Falls and is well maintained, offering rewarding views, especially in the fall when the leaves change. Visitors should note that parking is very limited and there are no restrooms or dog stations available.

The Crags Trail is a 4-mile hike in Pike National Forest near Divide, CO, that will take about 2.5 hours to complete with Fido. This pet-friendly trail, exclusively for hikers and horsemen, leads to the Crags and is a true mountain adventure. The ground is padded with evergreen needles and is easy on Fido's paws. Please note that dogs must remain on a leash while hiking the trail.

Leashed dogs are welcome at Palmer Lake Regional Recreation Area in Palmer Lake, CO. This 36-acre, pet-friendly park, nestled at the base of Ben Lomand Mountain, features scenic walking paths, open vistas, a playground, picnic areas, a disc golf course and more. Visitors can also enjoy fishing, birding, and multi-use trails in the peaceful mountain setting.

Dogs on a 6-foot or shorter leash are welcome at Rampart Reservoir Recreation Area, a pet-friendly natural space in Colorado Springs. You and Fido can explore the three hiking trails, Rainbow Gulch, Rampart Reservoir and Nichols. Mountain biking is popular on Rampart and Rainbow Gulch trails. Wading and swimming are prohibited. This space is open from mid/late May through early October (dependent on weather).
