Minnewaska State Park Preserve in Kerhonkson, NY, is dog friendly. The Appalachian Trail in Harriman State Park in Monroe, NY, is a difficult 11.15-mile hike that will take about 8.5 hours or overnight to complete with Fido. This pet-friendly path is possibly one of the most challenging hikes on the Appalachian Trail but also the most beautiful. Dogs must remain on a leash, and if you choose to camp, you can set up at the Wildcat Shelter, which is 2.1 miles into the hike.
