Dog Friendly Hiking Trails in Newtown, MO

Fido is welcome off-leash on the 5-miles of dog-friendly nature trails of Grindstone Nature Area in Columbia, MO. The 200-acre park features lovely creeks and scenery. Please note that dogs must be leashed only on the Hinkson Creek Trail.

Located in the heart of the Des Moines Metro area, Gray's Lake Park is a dog-friendly spot that's perfect for a walk with your leashed pup. The 167-acre park features a 1.9-mile lit trail, which encircles the lake. Dogs are not allowed on the designated swimming beach, and pets must be cleaned up after during their visit. The dog-friendly Shawnee Mission Park is a multi-use, 1,600-acre park located in Kansas. It is the largest park in the county and the most visited park in the entire state of Kansas. Its 53-acre off-leash dog park, one of the largest in the country, has hiking trails, large open spaces and a 200-foot dog beach. The park is also home to a number of fantastic amenities such as a beautiful 120-acre lake that's great for boating, fishing, sail boarding, and much more. There are 11 spacious shelters, numerous picnic areas, nature trails, play areas, an archery range, a disc golf course, and trails to enjoy mountain biking and horseback riding. The park is also home to The Theatre in the Park, Shawnee Mission Park Beach, and Shawnee Mission Park Marina. In season, there are canoes, pedal boats, and fishing boats available for rent at the marina.

Leashed dogs are welcome to join you for a stroll through the Robert D. Ray Asian Gardens in Des Moines, IA. Honey Creek State Park is dog-friendly destination in Moravia, where you are invited to bring Fido with you to enjoy the home of Iowa's second largest lake, Lake Rathbun. The rolling hills surrounding the lake provide an epic background for visitors to enjoy while walking on the five miles of multi-use trails and the Woodland Interpretive Trail. There are also a couple of picnic areas where leashed dogs are welcome.

Leashed dogs are welcome at pet-friendly Lake Red Rock. Located in Knoxville, IA, this is the largest lake in the state, and it features beautiful bluffs, especially in the fall when the leaves turn colors. Starting right before Shelter 9 in a large wooded area on the east side of the lake, you will find the trailhead for the WyCo Single Track Trail. From the trailhead there are several options for trails, all interconnect with each other at points along the way and eventually loop back to the beginning.
