Bike and horseback riding trails may not allow dogs for safety reasons. Dogs are not allowed in stores, food service areas, bathhouse, pool or swimming areas. Fido cannot be left unattended and will be confiscated if left in a hot car more than 30 minutes.

There are dog stations throughout the park, picnic tables and benches. The one-mile concrete trail connects with the Nature Trail and the Watkins Trace Trail. Because it is tied in with the City’s sidewalk system, it is easily accessible. There are also several parking spaces along Mountain Brook Parkway for parking. Owls, hawks, raccoons, and fox are among the animals residing in the area.

The Longleaf Trace is one of 1600 rail-trails supported by Rails-to-Trails Conservancy, a nonprofit organization that is working to create a nationwide network of trails from former rail lines and connecting corridors.
