Dog Friendly Hiking Trails in Shaunavon, SK

Dogs are welcome at Grasslands National Park, where there are plenty of pet-friendly trails for you and Fido to check out. The park is made up of vast open prairies that create a canvas for a stunningly huge blue sky during the day and a twinkling masterpiece at night, ideal for stargazers. The 70 Mile Butte is the highest point in the park that gives you a great view of the whole park. The best time for you and Fido to check it out is early in the morning or near dusk for sunrise and sunset. Grasslands National Park is open every day of the week from 9:00am to 4:30pm.

Fort Walsh National Historic Site is dog-friendly. Technically, it's part of Cypress Hills Interprovincial Park and is also the site of the Cypress Hills Massacre. This working fort will take you back to the 1870s, where whiskey runners once roamed, and to a Canadian period dealing with the aftermath of the Battle of Little Big Horn. Pet owners should be warned that there will be loud bangs at certain times as reenactments and parades take place. Fort Walsh National Historic Site is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10am to 5pm.

Bowdoin National Wildlife Refuge is a pet-friendly recreation area in Malta, MT. You and Fido can drive the refuge's auto tour route, hike the trails, view wildlife and more. Dogs must be leashed from April 15 to August 15 on the entire refuge, and from September 1 through November 30 in the East Unit where walking is only allowed on the Auto Tour Route. All other times of the year, dogs may be off-leash if they are under their owner's voice control. Please remember to clean up after your pup.
