This dog-friendly trail is a challenging one; a 21-mile route taking an average of 8.5 hours to complete. Back 40 Loop crisscrosses several other trails and is popular with mountain bikers and trail runners who are drawn to the tough yet beautiful varying terrain. Hikers with Fido can expect plenty of switchbacks and should be prepared to encounter bike riders navigating this single-track trail. The Back 40 Loop crosses roads and winds alongside several small communities, but plenty of solitude can be found. The trail through a typical Arkansas hardwood forest will delight those in search of Fall colors, wildlife and trickling streams.
