Explore the first Territorial Capital of Montana at Bannack State Park, Big Sky Country’s most dog-friendly state park. The park was also the site of Montana's first major gold discovery. Today, you can walk your dog on the deserted streets of this old west ghost town and imagine what it was like in 1862. Leashed pups are also welcome on guided tours, which are conducted daily from Memorial Day through Labor Day.

Your canine outlaw can join you at one of the 24 campsites or in the rental tipi along Grasshopper Creek at Bannack State Park Campground. Fido can also sleep the night away at this Montana Guest Cabin, located on a beautiful ranch.

From cross-country skiing in winter to canicross in summer, Snowfill Recreation Area in Bozeman is an attractive prospect whatever the weather, making it Montana’s most dog-friendly attraction. Surrounded by stunning snow-capped mountains, this giant off-leash natural area spans 37 acres. It’s fenced, contains two miles of meandering trails, and has doggy drinking fountains and plenty of benches for a quick break with your buddy. Stop for a post-workout pint at nearby Bunkhouse Brewery.

MountainView Lodge & Suites welcomes people and their pups to relax after a day in the great outdoors. Dog-friendly rooms are on the first floor, which allows easy access to the pet relief area outside.

Located between Montana’s Bridger Range and the Spanish Peaks, Bozeman Hot Springs Campground is the perfect spot for exploring nature. Wake up to a complimentary free breakfast and snag some bacon for Fido. Then, hang out at Montana’s most dog-friendly campground and enjoy the large, fenced dog park or try your hand at ladder golf, giant chess, or horseshoes. If you want to explore beyond the campsite, hike with your pup in the Snowfill Recreation Area or take a dip together at the Canine Beach at Bozeman Pond. Bozeman Hot Springs Campground is also a great home base for exploring Yellowstone National Park. Pets of any size are allowed at tent and RV sites for no additional fee.

Rock-climbing Rottweilers will enjoy an expedition to Montana’s best dog park, High Sierra Dog Park in Billings. Located near Billings Logan International Airport, this 7.5-acre fenced park is usually bustling with dogs at play. Four-legged visitors can clamber over rocky outcrops, dash across the grass and find shade underneath a variety of trees around the park. Don’t forget to bring your own water for your pooch to rehydrate on hot days.

Live in the lap of luxury with a weekend away at this Italian vacation paradise. Dogs will love sniffing the pristine lawn in the fenced backyard.

There’s no better place to experience Montana’s natural beauty than on the Beehive Basin Trail in Big Sky. This top trail to hike with your dog in Montana features jaw-dropping views at every turn, including a large meadow full of wildflowers, snow-capped mountains for miles in the distance, and a crystal clear mountain lake at the very top. Beehive Basin Trail is seven miles out and back and is rated moderately difficult due to occasional steep sections along the way. But when combined with plenty of flat areas, it’s a manageable trek for most fit furballs.

Huntley Lodge is in Gallatin Canyon near the trailhead. Pups are welcome to stay here and can enjoy a leashed wander around the grassy relief area. Food and water bowls are available upon request.

The Grasshopper Inn in Polaris is the best dog-friendly bed and breakfast in Montana. Sociable dogs who are likely to get along with the inn’s resident canines are welcome to stay in the property’s cozy upstairs rooms away from foot traffic and bark triggers downstairs. After a good night’s sleep, eat breakfast with your best friend on the pet-friendly porch that overlooks the surrounding mountains. Then, cruise with your Corgi on Pioneer Mountain Scenic Byway, a beautiful 50-mile road that traverses the entire length of Pioneer Mountain Range.

The Resort at Paws Up is one of our favorite pet-friendly all-inclusive resorts, but for one weekend every year the property goes entirely to the dogs at Montana’s can’t miss dog event. Kick off the first weekend of October with Fido at the Wine & Bitch Dinner. Paws Up’s Executive Chef will prepare a meal complete with wine pairings and dessert. Your pup can even get in on the gourmet action with some fancy dog treats. While you’re savoring the food, your pooch gets to enjoy supervised playtime with his pals at the resort’s indoor arena.

Get a good night's sleep so you can wake up and burn off those calories at the Canine Classic. Choose between a two- or five-mile hike, a five-mile race or a half-marathon with Fido. Your dog can participate on- or off-leash along scenic trails throughout the resort. After the events, enjoy a barbeque lunch with beer and wine.
