Built during the 19th century, The Schoolhouse Cottage is a unique, private retreat just 10 minutes from Dahlonega Square where the town’s festive happenings will be held from Thanksgiving through the new year. After you’ve walked through the winter wonderland of Christmas lights, met St. Nick and shopped at dog-friendly stores like Woodland’s Edge, head back to this historic schoolhouse splashed in holiday trimmings and trees and vintage Christmas decor. The homeowner thoughtfully tends to the cottage between each guest, making it feel just like home for your holiday getaway.

Cabins range in size from studios to a 7-bedroom mountain lodge, all situated on six acres surrounded by national forests. This woodland retreat knows how to deck the halls for the holidays with each home decorated in lights, greenery and festive accents inside and out. Take your pup on a walk along pet-friendly trails, then warm up around the fire pit or let Fido rest up for Santa Paws while you soak in the year-round Jacuzzi. Christmas Cabin
Once upon a time, there was a rustic retreat that celebrated the holidays all year long. One of Josselyn’s Getaway Log Cabins in Jefferson, NH, the Christmas Cabin, is decorated with yuletide spirit. The rental also has a private balcony with log railings for you and your pooch to watch Santa take off in his sleigh after delivering his gifts (or lumps of coal). During the day, try something new at Muddy Paw Sled Dog Kennel. You can take part in a variety of snowy activities including dog sledding, skijoring, bike-joring and scooter-joring, and receive training from “bone-ified” Iditarod veterans.
The Christmas Cabin welcomes two pets for an additional fee of $50 per pet, per stay.
Boyd Mountain Cabins
Smaller dogs can spend their vacation surrounded by yuletide celebrations at a working Christmas tree farm in North Carolina. The story of Boyd Mountain Cabins began over a century ago when the Boyd family first started growing Christmas trees for the people of Waynesville. Located between the Great Smoky and Blue Ridge Mountains, Boyd Mountain Christmas Tree Farm produces quality trees to this day and welcomes dogs to help sniff out the finest fir for their owners. There are seven different cabins to choose from, all of which are happy to host your hound. Trees decorated with lights are dotted throughout the property and cabins are adorned with holiday decor and include a cozy fireplace where Fido can hang his stocking.
Boyd Mountain Cabins accepts pets up to 20 lbs for an additional fee of $20 per pet, per night. Dogs of any size are permitted at the tree farm.
