Description

On Saturday, May 30, 2009, The Gatehouse (a charity devoted to assisting children whose lives have been impacted bya buse) will be holding an event called Mayday 2009. Mayday 2009 is a free, family-oriented carnival, taking place between 9AM and 5PM at Colonel Samuel Smith Park, 3101 Lakeshore Blvd. West, Etobicoke, ON. Mayday 2009 will include appearances by childrens’ performer Daniel Cook, several dance groups, a musical performance by Sir Jerry and appearances by Dora the Explorer, Diego, Spongebob Squarepants and Patrick. Carnival games, jumping gyms, critters, the Go Transit Train Safety Village, a Teddy Bear adoption centre and hospital, a kid’s craft area, a Toronto Fire Department Fire Truck and a BBQ are some of the many activities planned for Mayday 2009. For dog and animal lovers, several activities are planned. Apart from a critters demonstation (lizards, spiders, snakes, rabbits), we are very excited that “The Good Guys Carting Dogs” will be participating in Mayday 2009. “The Good Guys Carting Dogs” will be providing demonstrations of dog carting and obedience through the day. The Etobicoke Humane Society and some canine friends will be in attendance to educate children about interacting with dogs. The Toronto Police K9 and Mounted (horses) Units (with trading cards) will also be participating and are always a hit with those in attendance. Finally, Officer Robert Dale Meerburg and K9 Cody (a yellow Labrador retriever, whom Officer Meerburg adopted) from Toronto Animal Services will be in attendance to educate children about safety around dogs and to provide dog obedience demonstrations. Further information about Mayday 2009 can be obtained from the website: www.thegatehouse.org/mayday. Alternatively, please contact The Gatehouse at 416 255 5900 and ask to speak with the Director of Development, Julie Brown.
