We have stayed in a LOT of "dog friendly" places, but this was possibly our worst hotel experience ever. First was the excessive $50 per night (per dog) pet fee. The room was unusually noisy with both mechanical and human sources. We did not have towels in our room, we had to go to the desk (twice) to pick them up ourselves. The bathroom did not even have a place to hang a towel. We stayed two nights, but our room was never cleaned. The hotel itself was very crowded, with a line to check in and limited, inconvenient parking. It is also in a run down, congested area of Santa Cruz. Definitely not worth the price!

Pretty dumpy. Not what Internet photos show, so overpriced. The Bed was comfortable. Bathroom had mold, was old and dirty.

this is an older Hotel with small rooms, mold in bathroom, broken outlets, dirt area for the dogs that is shared by all the ground floor rooms with no barriers outside your glass doors, noisy neighbors. The location is ok because you can walk to small park a block away for your dogs, if it is open and walkable to boardwalk.

We were taking a trip with our dog along the Pacific coast. We made a one night stopover in Santa Cruz. I had difficulty finding a pet friendly hotel. No chain hotels were available. Only very old, independent hotels were near the boardwalk. So we ended up at the Hotel Solares. They did have newish mattresses, but the pillows were small and lumpy. Other than the mattresses, there was nothing good about the place. The room was in poor repair and the patio was in a virtual dump with trash everywhere. The free breakfast was waffles, cold cereal, and bagels. Coffee was OK, though. We found Santa Cruz to be pet UNfriendly. The wharf - no dogs. The beach - no dogs. The restaurants at the beach - no dogs. The whole area is rundown and old. I'll never go to Santa Cruz again.

I was a bit sceptical about what the hotel would offer. However when I arrived it seemed like a perfect spot for our getaway! Not only is the Santa Cruz Boardwalk a 15 minute walk but the beach next door (that allow dogs) was amazing! My husky was able to meet and play with many other dogs! The room I was given was cleaned remarkably well and they gave us a floor room with a bit of space to be able to take our dog outside for a bit. The staff treated my pooch with so much care and they seemed to love dogs as much as the rest of us.
