Notes from the host
Camp Hill Cottage
Our cottage is the perfect home away from home. It is separate from the main house, with direct walk-in entry from the side yard. The kitchen is fully equipped with a gas stove and oven and has a lovely coffee-pod machine. It's minutes from Brisbane city, the Gabba cricket ground, Southbank or an hour to Gold or Sunshine Coasts. There is plenty of free on street parking and buses and trains close by.
We love hosting families with kids and pets. Our guests have their own deck and a grassed, fenced yard to keep kids/pets safe and secure.
THE SPACE:
The fully self contained cottage is totally separate from the main house but close enough that you can ask your friendly hosts for anything you need or get directions to the many attractions in the city of Brisbane, only 5km away. The bus is 100m walk and the train is only a 10 minute walk away.
The Kitchen is equipped with all the utensils, crockery and cutlery one could need. There is a gas upright stove (hotplates and oven) and a large fridge/freezer, microwave, kettle, toaster and Coffee Machine .
There is a queen bed, a king single bed and two huge Swiss couches that guests could comfortably fall asleep on. It is a large open space, you could easily accommodate 2 adults and a couple of children. The private front deck adds so much space to the cottage when the bi-fold doors are opened. The doors can be closed, air turned on and curtains drawn to have a snooze or watch a movie.
Pets are also welcome and have their own fenced yard and and are allowed inside the cottage. We only ask that guests keep their pets off the furniture including the beds, and ensure that the pets are not left inside when they are not home. All droppings must be collected and removed from the yard before leaving.
Privacy is assured. The entry is separate and no interaction is necessary unless desired. The hosts live in the main house but on the occasions when they are away, there will be an alternative contact made known to guests.
Camp Hill is a very safe, leafy suburb of majestic Queenslanders and gorgeous parks. It is very family oriented and quiet. At the end of the street there are several popular restaurants, if you don't feel like cooking. There are many cafes within walking distance as well as a couple of local shops with post office, newsagent, supermarket, bakery and bottle shop.
There are bus stops and train station (Norman Park Station) within easy walking distance - look up Translink Journey Planner on the web to plan your journey on bus/train/city-cat (boat). Holiday information is provided in the cottage. A travel "Go Card" is available at most Newsagents. You can top this card up and use it for the bus, train, C City Cat and ferry. This will reduce your transport costs considerably.
OTHER THINGS TO NOTE:
For families travelling with infants or children the hosts are very happy to provide extras to make your stay as comfortable and easy as possible. We can source a port-a-cot, mattress and extra linen for your little ones. If there is anything you need during your stay just let us know and we'll do our best to help you.
The cottage is also on the flight path into Brisbane Domestic and International airport which is just 20 minutes away. Most of our guests are not bothered by the planes and they don't fly over during the night. We have a couple of busy times but sometimes nothing at all if the flights change and we are on the outgoing path. It is important for us to let our guests know but it is also wonderful to be in such close proximity to the city and all that it has to offer - including the airport.
THE NEIGHBOURHOOD:
Our neighbourhood is quiet and peaceful with young people, families and long term residents happily sharing this wonderful green area. Enjoy lovely walks and a beautiful park or two close by. There are a couple of good restaurants at the end of the street as well as a local shopping centre with a bakery, newsagent, post office, bottle shop and supermarket. The city is a ten minute car/cab ride away.
If you love Asian food, Sings Asian Kitchen is one of our favourites and is on Cavendish Road at Coorparoo. Indian is a close second and Punjab Palace at Melbourne Street, West End is amazing. For those who like Italian, Elios Osteria at Winstanley Street, Camp Hill is fantastic and don't forget to say hello to Paul. Greenslopes is the home of Jam Pantry where Nim, the owner, changes her menu to suit local availability of produce. We love to go here for breakfast.
GETTING AROUND:
There is Free street parking at the front of the property. You can catch a bus at the top of the street which will take you to the city, Southbank, The "Gabba" cricket/AFL ground only 5 km away. There is a train station only 10 minutes walk away where you can travel to the city, Southbank, Gold Coast or airport. The City-Cats will take you up and down the Brisbane River to places like New Farm Park, Tenerife, Southbank, QUT, UQ, Riverside, Bretts Wharf, Portside and the overseas cruise terminal.
We provide a folder with lots of information about local attractions and how to get there. You can purchase a "Go Card" from any newsagent, which will let you access public transport (bus, train, city-cat) and save you money. You can call a taxi ("Yellow Cabs" or "Black and White Taxis". There are also many UBER cars available for about half the price of the taxis. You will need to download the APP on your phone or computer (free) to access this service but it is well worth it.
