AND WHILE THE VIEW STILL INSPIRES SO DOES THE HOTEL CUISINE AND LEISURE FACILITIES. THE ROMANTIC STORY BEHIND THE RESORT BEGAN IN 1903 WHEN A WEALTHY ENGLISHMAN FELL IN LOVE WITH THE MOUNTAIN AND LAKESIDE SETTING AND BUILT THE MANOR FOR HIS BRIDE. IN MANY SENSES THE IDYLL CONTINUES INSPIRING THE OSCAR-WINNING HEPBURN AND FONDA FILM ON GOLDEN POND. ENJOY TEA AND DREAMY END-OF-DAY REVERIES IN THE LIBRARY OR ALTERNATIVELY RETREAT TO THE EXCELLENT RESTAURANT. THE CUISINE IS PROBABLY THE FINEST IN THE REGION COMPLEMENTED BY A CELEBRATED CELLAR. HOWEVER DESPITE THE EXCELLENT SPA GOLF SKIING LAWN GAMES AND WATER SPORTS PERHAPS THE BEST WAY TO ENJOY THE MANOR ON GOLDEN POND IS FIRESIDE AFTER DINNER WITH A LARGE PORT AND ENTERTAINING COMPANY.
