Entry Requirements

Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Iceland with your pet:
  • Visitors traveling with pets must apply for an import permit (attached) to the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST). Permits vary depending on the country of origin. Once the application has been approved, MAST will send a request for payment, before issuing the permit.
  • Pets must be microchipped.
  • Animals also require vaccinations for rabies and a titer test at least 30 days after vaccination and further vaccinations for leptospirosis, canine distemper, infectious canine hepatitis, canine parvovirus and canine parainfluenza at least 14 days prior to entering Iceland.
  • Keflavik Airport is the only approved port of entry for pets. The permitted hours for pets at Keflavik are between 5:00am and 5:00pm on the quarantine admission days. For arrival outside these specified hours an application must be sent to MAST one week in advance.
  • At least 5 days before the date of arrival, a copy of the Certificate of Health and Origin for Import of a Dog/Cat must be sent to the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority email at mast@mast.is
  • Be sure to bring originals of the import permit, Certificate of Health and Origin, and a Rabies antibody test report. The documents must be attached securely (preferably in a waterproof envelope) on the transport crate.
