I was SO happy they were open since it’s “offseason” despite beautiful weather and some other places on here were already closed. When I called to check, they said they were having a benefit on the outdoor patio but could make it work.
They were very kind about letting me pick from the available table, and the waitress was wonderful. So was the food! I split the table water vise with my pup, and she LOVED her cheeseburger off the dog menu. (We gave the carrots to a more plant friendly doggo). My pizza and dirty Shirley were delicious! Great spot :)

This is a wonderful spot to bring your pup! I was so impressed with the dog friendly aspects! Upon arrival, as mentioned in other reviews, they lent us two metal dog bowls with a tray, a collapsible water bowl keychain, a lobster dog treat, and informational materials about the area (including dog friendly spots). I also used the (free) dog wash station! I needed to wash my dog anyway and was grateful for the set up and provided shampoo. My 80 lb dog seemed a bit big for the tub, so I hosed her down next to it LOL and gave her a little blow dry to take the edge off. When I spoke with the office staff about a few items, they were very helpful and kind. Great location- walkable to CVS, acme, McDonald’s, and Starbucks, and just a few minutes from the beach and dog park.
This was my dog’s first time staying in a motel/hotel. If I ever consider staying at a motel/hotel with my pup again, I might talk to the vet about giving her something to help her (and thus me) sleep, lol. She eventually largely stopped with the growling/barking at noise from the next room, but she (and therefore me) did not sleep well. If your dog is chill, you’ll probably be fine.
I was traveling solo & didn’t even think to ask for a first floor room upon booking. They were sold out when I asked day of arrival. My pup is fine with stairs, but I didn’t love second floor, esp when she needed to go out in the night, and lugging her and all of our stuff (and since our days included a ton of walking). If I ever stay somewhere with her again I’ll definitely inquire re; first floor availability in advance, esp if I’m solo.
There was a little flying bug in the room and a few dead ones on the windowsill. Otherwise seemed extremely clean. And it’s a motel with the room door directly to outside, so understandable bugs will be more common and unpreventable. The maid staff was friendly and I’m sure would’ve wiped the sill if I asked. The outside light shined in a little even through the curtain. The toilet jiggled a bit, but seemed very clean. Love that they provided makeup wipes and a recycling can as well as trash. I was hoping even if the pool was closed the hot tub might still be open mid October, but no dice.
I highly recommend this motel for pups and am giving it 5 bones given the excellent dog friendly provisions, wonderful staff and customer service, overall cleanliness, free dog wash station, etc. Just be mindful of asking for first floor in advance if you or your dog can’t do stairs, and think about whether your dog can handle sleeping next door to others. Thank you, Sandbox Motel, for a great experience!

Super cute dog menu at the food pick up window. Outdoor picnic tables are great for pup. Staff was Nice, asked if they could take a photo of her. She loved her $1 pup cup with a milkbone & ice cream. The only thing that would be an improvement would be if the staff would bring your food when it’s ready; the picnic tables are on the opposite side of the building, so someone needs to wait or go back to check when your food and drinks are ready. A little annoying. But def would go back. Thanks, burger 25!
