Katie is the best!
Island Pet CompanyKatie is so amazing! It was a cold and windy day at Port A so we wanted to check out local businesses. We hit the jackpot here! We were able to leave our pup in great hands while we went out to dinner. Georgia didn't want to leave! Thanks Miss Katie for giving our dog a wonderful daycare experience! I don't know that I have what it takes do get her to do the fun puzzles that you did with her!
Amazing view
Bald Rock Boardwalk at Cheaha State ParkGreat place for a short walk. There is a boardwalk that has an unpaved trail that runs right next to it. There are stairs along the boardwalk every so often so you can get on and off the boardwalk if you want. It is about 0.3 miles and ends with an incredible overlook. We went in January and we're the only people there. The camp store even had free coffee and is dog friendly.
Great spot
Dauphin Island Harbor HouseThe bed was so comfortable and the room was small but really nice. The premium rooms are much bigger but we were on a budget. We came back from a morning hike and a nice hot breakfast was waiting for us. If you are into fishing this is definitely a place for you. They have a private dock that is lit up at night, boat slips, fishing gear you can use, and the owner charters fishing trips. There is a good area out back for pet relief. The owners are super friendly and have a dog named JoJo.
Great beach
Dauphin Island BeachWe went in January to the east beach and had the place to ourselves. Our dog loved swimming and running around...leashed of course. You have to pay but it was only about $5 for the day. It is also right next to the fort which is dog friendly, too. The beach by the red schoolhouse is dog friendly, too. We went there last year but had really dense marine fog and we were only traveling through so only had time for a quick walk and swim. Will definitely be back here.
Great place for a walk
Audubon Bird SanctuaryBest place to walk your dog on the island. We were there on a couple cold days in January so we didn't need the shade but I imagine in the summer it would be a relief to have. If you are a birder this is such a gem of a location for birding. When we went there was no beach access but there are other spots on the island that have dog friendly beaches. This is a place you definitely don't want to miss. Did most of the trails at a slow pace in about 45 minutes.
Awesome experience
Fort GainesThis is such a an amazing place to visit with your pooch! Every single part of it is dog friendly including the museum. The staff was wonderful and the fort is really well preserved with quite an impressive number of artifacts. This place way exceeded my expectations.
Nice Beach
Fort Morgan Historic Site Bayside BeachWe went in January and parked right by the pier before you enter the fort. Dogs aren't allowed on the pier but can go on the beach. Lots of good sniffing with all the drift wood. Our pup loved the beach walk and swimming. There are not many beaches near Gulf Shores that are dog friendly so this is a good option. We saw lots of dolphins and birds, too.
Dog friendly beach camping
Padre Island National SeashoreSecond time camping here with our pup. It is a great spot. There is a lot of trash that washes up on the beach so it is a good idea to pick up the free yellow garbage bags at the visitor's center and cleaning up a bit if you are going to camp so your dog doesn't step on something sharp. Also there are coyotes that get decently close and rattlesnakes in the dunes. We didn't have any problems but we were pretty vigilant about the coyotes after dark.
Great value!
Alister Square InnThe price is great per night in January. They have a biggish grassy area for pet relief and the hotel is close to all the restaurants and shops. Would definitely recommend this place. Georgia the bloodhound says "support local businesses"!
So much fun!
Fire It! CeramicsSo many ceramic pieces to pick from. The staff is amazing and it was so nice to be able to bring our dog Georgia inside. They offered her water and gave her lots of love. Definitely recommend this place.
Great place to camp with your pup
Mustang Island State ParkGreat beach for dogs. There were not a lot of people in January. There are picnic tables and trash cans. Definitely worth the $5 park fee. Much more scenic than the public beach.
