Dog friendly and comfortable

Shepler's Ferry

We took our dog in his stroller on the ferry to our stay in Mackinac Island. we booked through a resort that included the tickets, and they were easy to get at the ticket window. Luggage transfer was simple, and we were able to park our stroller by the ferry entrance as the seating was on a lower level. Our dog had no issue on the ferry and it was a quick 15 minute ride to the island.

Cute dog-friendly shop

Little Luxuries

The shop sold a lot of cute items and dog accessories. Very unique and had enough room for us to bring our dog in his stroller.

Great location and dog friendly

Mission Point Resort

As the only dog friendly resort on Mackinac Island, I was a little skeptical that it would really be pro-dog since there were no other options outside of an Airbnb, but they were wonderful. We chose the “pooch at the point” package which included a welcome gift containing a small collapsible dog bowl and a roll of poop bags.

The island is rich in history and the buildings reflect that, so they aren’t all super modern or updated. Having said that, the buildings were clean and beautiful, and the rooms were cozy. Our room was in the Straits Lodge and had baseboard heating that didn’t seem to have controls, and a portable AC unit that was vented out of the wall. The unit competed with the heater in getting the room to a temperature we were comfortable with, but it was never unbearable. The ac unit is a bit loud, but it actually turned out to be a huge perk for us as it helped drown out the noises outside that made our dog bark.

The doors are old using physical keys instead of the key cards, and there is a slight gap underneath where light and noise can come through a bit. It didn’t bother us much, but our dog of course noted every noise. A rolled up towel pushed against it and it wasn’t an issue.

There wasn’t a microwave in the room, but other than that we had no problems. Bed and pillows were comfortable, and we could even see the lake from our room. Easy access to the outside for potty breaks, and the first floor had a coffee shop.

We only dined at the Round Island Kitchen, but they had two patio areas that accommodated dogs. We always chose the one with the least number of people. We saw that some dogs were provided a water bowl but ours was kept in a stroller and didn’t get/need one. The food wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t amazing either. We did have a $100 credit for the package we chose, and it paid for our meal. The patio overlooks the great green lawn with Adirondack chairs and Lake Huron, which is incredibly beautiful and picturesque. After eating, going to the great lawn for potty and walking was a wonderful after-meal exercise.

The resort also offers pet-sitting, although we did not use it. The employees volunteer, so only those who want to watch pets will ever actually be assigned to do so, and the price we were quoted was $16/hour.

Overall, we were pleased. The resort offered exactly what we were looking for and it was a wonderful trip. We went during October, so the season was nearing the end and you could tell with the few people on the island and in the resort. But the weather was perfect, the autumn colors were straight out of a hallmark movie, and fewer people meant less crowding in the smaller shops and less waits in restaurants.

Amazing views, dated room

Baymont by Wyndham St Ignace Lakefront

The room was clean and a decent size, and was a corner room next to a grassy area for dogs to do their business and an amazing beach. The continental breakfast was modest, and people apparently don’t like picking up after their dogs because there was poo everywhere, EVERYWHERE! However, that is more rude human behavior rather than an issue with the hotel. The bed was comfortable, pillows a bit small (as standard for hotels), and in room coffee meh. The best perk was the beach view.

Perfect dog friendly restaurant

Lazy Dog Restaurant & Bar

We absolutely loved this restaurant! We placed a reservation to make sure we didn’t have to wait for a table, and the patio area was nicely set up. There is a dog relief area right by the back of the patio, and bowls of ice water are complimentary.

The pup menu is small but thoughtful; we didn’t order as I brought food for our Frederick. There were many other dogs there and the atmosphere was wonderful. Even though it was in the 90s, it didn’t feel quite as hot.

The food was fantastic! Best fries ever, and the burger and loaded hot dog we ordered was amazing. I honestly would be fine ordering just the fries; they were good enough to eat without dipping into a sauce!

We will definitely be coming back!

Cute shop!

LUXE Saugatuck

Shop that sells an assortment of goods for humans and pets alike. I got my dog a fun beef stick made to look like a cigar, but was tempted to purchase bandanas as well. The shop is a little on the narrow side, but I was still able to walk with my dog stroller without issue.

Beautiful location

Pennyroyal Cafe & Provisions

Beautiful garden with outside dining. dog bowl with water is available. it does get very busy so parking, even the additional in the back, can be taken up quickly. We went on Mother’s Day and waited 40 minutes for our table, but they do have a take out window and picnic table seating if you would rather do that. The provision shop does not allow dogs but is small/cute, and there are little trails for walking. Food is wonderful, so definitely worth a stop!

Records galore and dog friendly

Phoenix Street Records and Boutique

Brought our Cavapoo in a stroller while browsing for some vinyl. Narrow aisles but other than that, berry accessible.
