The hotel was okay - I would probably have given it 3 bones. Nothing outstanding, nothing horrible - except for the heater which sounded like a jet engine every time it turned on with annoying frequency. But they charged a $100 security deposit to our credit card, and days after we checked out, it has not been reversed.
We brought a spare sheet to completely cover the furniture. The dogs wore bellybands the entire time they were in the building, and nobody had any accidents. They were never left alone in the room, and the only time they barked was when somebody was pounding on the door across the hall - and we immediately silenced them. There was absolutely NO damage to the room.
This is the first time we've ever been charged a security deposit, and when they have our credit card number, I fail to see the necessity of doing so - especially if they are not going to return it in a timely manner - if at all.

Pros: The desk clerk was incredibly helpful. When the internet was down, she went above and beyond by using her personal hotspot to ensure we could check in smoothly. Breakfast was delicious. The dog area is a great space with a nice grassy patch. Con: Unfortunately, the dog area was often unusable due to guests tying their dogs to a nearby tree. Their aggressive behavior made it uncomfortable for other pets.

The hotel offered excellent amenities for humans, and the breakfast was delicious. However, our dogs had a less than pleasant experience. Due to a combination of parking lot renovations and an unexpected surge of guests from a popular event a hundred miles away, the parking situation was a nightmare. With limited parking and serious pressure washing, getting our dogs from the car to the hotel door without getting them soaked was quite an ordeal.

The human accommodations were satisfactory but lacked anything exceptional. The hotel did offer a charming touch with dog-themed plaques in the hallway. Breakfast was simple and unremarkable. While the first-floor location was convenient, the only available walking areas for our dogs were the parking lot or overgrown weedy areas. A significant issue arose when we discovered the refrigerator was turned off upon arrival. This meant a lengthy wait for it to cool down, preventing us from storing any canned dog food for later. As a result, our dogs were limited to kibble for their meals.

Despite its simplicity, this hotel was a standout during our trip. Convenient at-door parking allowed us to easily unload essentials without hassle. The room was functional with a working refrigerator, TV, and safety bars in the shower. We appreciated the grassy areas between the sidewalk and street, complete with waste disposal bags. The hotel's central location was ideal for leisurely dog walks on quiet streets.

Generous portions of tasty food - plenty of space for dogs under cover

The chowder and bread were yummy, and the porch was fine for the dogs. We were impressed that even though the tip was included in the price of the meal, the staff working the porch was very professional and friendly and seemed to work well together.

The facilities were clean, even the dog potty area. They put us on the ground floor, which was convenient. Breakfast was okay. The only issue is that they deactivated our key while we were still loading the car (well before checkout time) but housekeeping let us in, so it worked out.

Everything was okay but other than allowing dogs, they didn't do anything to welcome them. I had to tell the desk that the container of baggies was empty. There was a grassy area but it was not well lit for nighttime use. We had requested a first floor room but wound up on the second - so the dogs got to experience riding in an elevator.

This is an older establishment and wouldn’t get a lot of stars based on its modern amenities. But it was clean and cozy and very dog friendly. There was a large, maintained grassy field with picnic tables. The room was big enough and the mattress was firm. Once we covered it with our sheet, the dogs found it very comfortable. When a dryer in the laundry room billowed black smoke and the place was swarming with police and firefighters, they knocked on our door and told us to go to the lobby in another building. When we said we had the dogs, the response was “they’re family too” and allowed them in the lobby where breakfast was being served. Even with the power turned off for safety, the food was still warm and very tasty. There were many homestyle dishes that you wouldn’t find in a chain. (The fire was quickly extinguished and we got back into the room).

Trying not to faceplant while going down rickety outdoor steps when the dogs really, really had to go was such a challenge that we put belly bands on the boys to minimize the number of times we had to do it. The pet corner of the parking lot, which was full of weeds, had a baggie stand next to a totally overflowing bucket for dog poop. No wonder there was a lot of excrement around the property. But the worst part was that we realized after we were all unpacked, fed and ready for bed that the room just wasn’t warming up. The fan for the HVAC system was blowing unheated air - at a time of year when outdoors was below freezing. We turned off the fan, which was just making the room feel colder, and decided to make the best of it by going to bed wearing our street clothes and insisting that the dogs stay on the bed the entire night to add additional warmth. They are bed hogs and it was close to a sleepless night.
