Warm and Welcoming
Three Notch'd Craft Kitchen & BreweryWe went here twice in one day! It is like that when you travel with dogs in winter sometimes. First, they are located on a dog friendly parcel. There is an outdoor art installation next door. There’s a nice patch of grass along the lot. The restaurant serves full and good meals and has good beer and specialty cocktails. For our visits in winter we found a covered, enclosed patio with possible heat. It was perfect during the day and fair on a freezing evening. During the cold night others were drinking on the patio and we needed to order at the outdoor bar but it was a good find. They brought the dogs a bowl of water with the beer company brand on it. Welcoming!
Plenty of Dog Visitors But Not Truly Friendly
North Carolina ArboretumAlthough you can bring your dog, the buildings prohibit pets. Usually I’m fine with that if there is a reason (food served, private establishment and it is owner’s policy, space not conducive, or concerns about damage to property). But the welcome center is a giant modern accessible largely empty box. Nothing to damage, plenty of clearance, not even a place people would loiter. The kicker is that the entry to the gardens is through the welcome center. Since dogs cannot do that you must trek up and down a hill to use alternate entry. There is gate access adjacent to the building but it is padlocked. There’s no reason for access to be restricted in this punitive way. In mid-April we found the gardens only lightly blooming.
