Selina River Venao (don’t confuse with Selina Playa Venao) is in the woods, 100m from the beach. The dorms are probably not ideal for dogs, but the cabins/teepees are great, with air conditioning and an intimate feeling. The food at Almendro Cafe is great. If your dog likes to chase cats, keep him on a lead, as there are a couple and he could chase the cat and end up on the main road. The beach is great for dog walks although there’s no shade - go early or at sunset.

The views are great, the food and drinks are good (but expensive). Sadly, they stick dogs together with smokers in an area with only a partial view over the valley. Our request to have a smoke free table was rather haughtily denied.

The restaurant at VS does great Dominican, Asian and vegan food for breakfast, lunch and dinner. It is fully pet friendly, although note that there are sometimes cats around, if your dog tends to run after them. The bar also does a range of cocktails. The menu is on the hotel’s website. There is a terrace to eat out and an indoor bit if the sun is too much.

Nice range of food and drinks. Like most places in Cabarete, a little expensive, but it is a good option on Kite Beach where there are fewer beachside restaurants. Very pet friendly and happy to bring water for Fido. You can dine on the sand and let the dog loose on the beach.

Nice beer and tapas and attentive tapas. Just avoid the grumpy Scottish regular customer who hates dogs.

They went out of the way to find the football game we wanted to watch, in the end lending us a phone with a betting app installed that was showing the game! Nice grilled options and beer and happy to accommodate our dog.

Nice food, good service and happy to have us with the hound.

We have stayed at VS twice, the second time with our dog. Fantastic hotel, only 21 rooms, very pet friendly, fantastic food, and very attentive staff.

Like a house imported from Alice in Wonderland with coffee and croissants in the shade behind the house. A great place for coffee with Fido.

Original and innovative twists on Dominican favourites. Enjoy the rabo encendio and chivo. Phone ahead, go midweek or for the 9pm sitting to be sure to get a front terrace seat with your dog. This is one of the nicest places in Santiago.

Shaded garden and a nice variety of Dominican and American inspired breakfasts. Really nice omelette and the “tres golpes lite” less heavy version of a Dominican classic. Attentive if somewhat slow service.

They do a full food menu but we stopped for juices with our dog and they were very welcoming. The terrace catches a lot of sun so your dog will be more comfortable inside (which is not really inside - it is not a building as such so quite shaded and cool). Very welcoming.

Great view over the valley, nice food (especially meat and the wine list). Don’t expect to be able to walk your dog in the grounds unless you are staying here.

A hotel with mountain cabins a couple of km out from Constanza. The turn off is opposite the airport entrance (but no planes land here). Ultra relaxed feel with a big space for the dog to play, a mini kids park and views over the mountains. Nice breakfast and you can cook for yourself in the cabins (not sure about the rooms in the main building). We reserved the cheapest room (probably in the main building) and they switched us to a cabin when they saw the size of our dog. On weekdays, you’ll almost have the place to yourself, but it can fill up on weekends.

A nice sports bar with a mountain cabin feel, serves craft and commercial beer plus bar food. Very pet friendly.

Tasty Spanish-inspired food at a fair price, accepted our dog with no issues. Some tables are quite close together, so it may be best to pick a corner table or go on a quiet night.

Although hard to see from the road, the bar at Hostal Casa 14 is a nice, chilled sort of back garden spot with a range of drinks, some food (we didn’t eat) and is very pet-friendly. Look for it in Waze. On the street, look for the gate with the number 14 - there isn’t much visibility! There are a few parking spaces but otherwise you park on the street.

There are a mix of food trucks offering food including Dominican, BBQ, Mexican, pasta and Chinese and a bar food truck (beer, cocktails). The food is good although maybe a little expensive for food trucks. A nice space to hang out and eat without leaving your dog at home.

Really nice range of Dominican and Dominican-inspired dishes. A classy place that accepts dogs, with main courses from around DOP800-2000. Valet parking.

A nice and central park where they sometimes hold small concerts and cultural events. The coffee house Cafecito del Parque is here. No dedicated dog park. Officially, dogs should be leashed, but during the daytime you’ll almost have the park to yourself so may be able to let the dog loose. In the mornings and evenings, people run and use the open air gym.

Nice clean dog park between the Núñez de Cáceres and Avenida Privada entrances. There is a tap but water pressure is low and sometimes unreliable. They do not supply water bags. The dog park is open 7am - 6pm, but the rest of the Mirador Sur park is open and accessible all the time.

Large range of cachapas and arepas. They show sports (various screens) and have a big terrace where you can eat with your dog.

A really nice little coffee house. It is a container with a garden in the woods, so not a place to go if it is raining, but a good place to relax in the shade with coffee and dog. It is right by the “esplanade de la Núñez” which is the area directly in front of Ave Núñez de Cáceres where people go rollerskating.
