Luxury Stay with One Minor Flaw

My stay at The Clyde Hotel was a lovely experience overall. The room was spacious, well-appointed, and featured quality linens, comfortable accommodations, and just the right temperature for a restful night. Everything felt clean and inviting, making it easy to unwind.

The only drawback—and the reason for my 4-bone rating instead of 5—was the strong scent in the room, which seemed to be masking a lingering pet odor, possibly from a previous guest. While I appreciate the effort to maintain cleanliness, the cleaning solution or deodorizer used was quite strong and a bit overwhelming, unfortunately giving me a headache.

That said, the service truly stood out. Daniel at valet was exceptional—professional, kind, and incredibly helpful. He not only recommended a wonderful dog park for Maple to enjoy (Santa Fe Dog Park), but also went out of his way to make sure she felt welcome and cared for. His thoughtful attention added a personal touch that made a big difference in our stay.

Maple certainly enjoyed her pampered stay in this modern and stylish hotel, and I appreciated the warmth and hospitality from the team. With just a bit of attention to scent management in pet-friendly rooms, this would easily be a five-bone experience.

A Rare Gem of Hospitality and Comfort

My stay at El Portal Sedona was nothing short of exceptional. This charming, historic boutique hotel is a rare blend of refined comfort, genuine hospitality, and thoughtful design. From the moment Maple (my Vizsla) and I arrived, we were welcomed with such warmth and care by the owners, Connie and Steve, and their wonderful team, Terry and Sylvia. It’s clear they take great pride in creating a personalized, elevated experience for every guest—two-legged or four.

The rooms are immaculate, cozy, and beautifully appointed, exuding a sense of calm and timeless elegance. Their pet accommodations are truly top-tier—thoughtful, spacious, and far beyond what you typically find. Steve even gave us local hiking recommendations, many within walking distance from the hotel. The location is ideal—tucked right in town, yet peaceful and serene, with easy access to scenic trails and pet-friendly restaurants.

From the curated wine and snack selections to the grab-and-go breakfast and locally roasted coffee, every detail is intentional and inviting. It’s the kind of place that doesn’t just welcome you—it remembers you, and leaves you looking forward to your return. If I could give it ten stars, I would. I wouldn’t change a thing. El Portal is truly a phenomenal escape for travelers and their companions alike. Maple and I will absolutely be back.
