We love bringing our 1 year old goldendoodle, Cooper, along on our adventures.

This is very remote wilderness with beautiful waterfalls and trails. We hiked the Sturgeon River falls Gorge trail and fished the river. We did not encounter wildlife but it's very remote there are bears and other wildlife. Our one year old goldendoodle had the time of his life.

We started our hike on the East River trail and looped around to finish on the West River trail. The East River trail was by far our favorite. It has less traffic, and is more rugged with some challenges. The trail is narrow at times, has a lot of exposed roots so you must watch your footing, and you go up and down a few times. All worth it. The West River trail is nice, a lot of boardwalk and stairs that will catch you with other people and/or dogs and you will have no space to distance yourself if need be. We unfortunately were caught by 2 very unfriendly dogs and their owner and had no choice but to pass by them. Both our dog and son were nervous and not wanting to pass by. Our 1 year old dog hadn't done more than 3 stairs until that point so it took him a minute to figure it out. Something I hadn't thought of before hand. There is access to Lake Superior if your dog likes a dip.
