Married with 2 large dogs

When we arrived for our reservation for a 1 night stay, there was no one in the locked office, but a # to call posted on the door. Fine, but when I first called it, no one answered & the VM mailbox was full. That was concerning, but when I called again 2 min later, someone answered & said he'd be right there. When he checked us in, he had a rather abrupt demeanor.
Went to room 20 (I think), & discovered that there was only a full size bed, not a king, which we had booked. Called the manager to say we booked a king room. He said that is all they have left! He had not disclosed that when we checked in. A queen would have been acceptable. (So what happened to the room we reserved?!) We were tired & my husband insisted he just wanted to shower off his sweat & go to bed.
The floors were dirty! The bathroom sink & toilet had obviously not been cleaned! The toilet bowl & seat had unmatched shapes. There was no screen on the bathroom window, so there were many insects of various sorts in the filthy room! The wall vent was very rusty. There was no waste basket anywhere. There was only 1 pillow for 2 people! (The other pillow case contained a folded up blanket.)
They advertise their amenities include air conditioning, toiletries, & towels. There were NO towels, toiletries, or even soap! The AC unit did NOT work, which was also not disclosed. The outdoor temps in that area had been in the low 90s that afternoon, so the room was in the 80s. My husband had noticed that an AC unit sitting on the ground outside was marked "it works," so the manager definitely knew about the broken AC.
The curtain on the window did not provide adequate privacy. There was no switch plate around the light switches, or receptacle plate over the AC receptacle (I reported to WV Fire Marshall). There was an imprint of where the non-existent deadbolt had been ripped off the door. The door knob was not working well & even came off in my husband's hand! He wasn't sure if it could even properly lock.
Shortly after our arrival, the manager informed us that they just had a water heater emergency, & we were told we could call BringFido to cancel the reservation, which we promptly did. We left ASAP.
(I later found many negative reviews about them on Expedia.)
After our vacation, I reported them to various agencies, in hopes that someone holds the owner & manager accountable to whatever violations or inadequate conditions exist, so that future unsuspecting travelers do not have to experience the deplorable conditions. No business should be able to get away with pulling a horrible switch on a customer like that - advertising & confirming one thing, and then providing something else. No motel should ever offer rooms in that kind of condition.
