Unsafe furnishings, crazy manager.
Econo Lodge FredericksburgFirst thing I noticed is how run-down the place is for an almost $100 (rate plus $30 pet fees) room. But my BF and I are on a long road trip from Oregon and have experienced our share of less than stellar hotel experiences. No biggie. UNTIL I saw that the 'headboard' was actually just a piece of raw plywood, which literally fell off the wall when touched. So I went back to tell the manager/owner, whose name is Jim, hoping to get some help. That's when Jim became increasingly agitated and volatile, escalating the situation until he kicked us off his property and threatened to call the cops when I phoned customer service trying to get a refund. I have honestly never experienced such a flat-out insane hotel situation! Reps tried repeatedly to reach Jim, who ignored their first several calls, after finally answering and hanging up.
Ripoff Room
Best Western CottonTree InnWe booked online at the last minute while on a roadtrip. Checked in at about 10:30pm and walked into an ICE COLD room. For some reason the heater was powered off during the middle of winter (?) in below freezing weather. Blasting the heater at 90 degrees did almost nothing even after we cleaned out the incredibly dirty filter. The room itself was also pretty shabby for the price - including the $20 pet fee, this room should be $65 max.
