Clean and comfortable

SureStay Hotel by Best Western Manning

I had used a different hotel in Manning, SC for my annual trip home from Florida, but that hotel’s recent ratings and my last year’s experience there were not great. So I went looking for a place that had better feedback ratings and found the SureStay hotel had some good ratings. We gave it a try this year and I have given it my stamp of approval and rate it higher than my previously used hotel in Manning. The room furnishings seemed updated and the room was very clean and comfortable. The hotel is older and the pool was filled in and paved over to make a nice little seating area. The grounds were tastefully groomed and as I said, the room furnishing seems to have been updated. We had a nice breakfast available to us so no complaints. I like the format with direct outside access to the room. This makes dog walking very easy. This will be my choice for next year’s trek north.

Easy stay

Quality Inn

This is the second time we have stayed at this hotel with our dog. There is a Denny’s restaurant attached to the hotel that makes it easy to order dinner and bring it back to the room. In the morning, this hotel provides a nice breakfast and we do the same thing, pick up breakfast and bring it back to the room. We walked the dog but didn’t find any outdoor clean up station and providing a specific dog walking area with a clean up station would be the only improvement I could suggest. There was a waste can near the rear door that I deposited my poop bag into, but come prepared with your own bags.

Downhill since last stay

Econo Lodge

I have stayed at this location before on my annual trek south, but this year the experience was lower. The room was showing age and the table was about to fall apart with one very wobbly leg. The dog walk area had no bags available, although the dispenser is there, and the light that illuminates the dog walk area just flashed on for a second like a strobe light. We asked for a ground floor room, but were told none were available so had to hike upstairs to the second floor with our suitcases. There were lots of empty rooms on the ground floor. The breakfast was downgraded to a paper bag which contains a granola bar, a muffin, and a fruit. While pets stay free, the overall experience may not be worth a return stay on the way back north.

Quiet and a good breakfast.

Quality Inn & Suites Florence - Cincinnati South

We used the Quality Inn in Florence, Ky on this trip south. There is easy access off the interstate and there is plenty of good food choices in the area for dinner. We bought Chicken at Lee’s and ate it in the room so we didn’t have to worry about our pet barking or causing any issues. The pet fee made the stop a little more pricey than I would like, but the $25.00 per pet is clearly stated in their policies. The room was on the first floor with easy access to a grassy dog walking area. I was surprised that they did not have a ready supply of poop bags and a well placed container for said poop. A suggestion for management would be to add these 2 items and the people traveling with pets would be pleased. The primary reason I selected this property though were the excellent reviews on the breakfast. The breakfast was definitely great. Scrambled eggs, sausage, waffles, fruit, yogurt, and much more. You had plenty to choose from and plenty to eat. The hotel was not very crowded at this time of year and so the room was quiet. The room was on the expressway side of the hotel, but the sound from the highway was hardly perceptible. Overall I was pleased but I am rating it only 4 bones to highlight the opportunity for improving the pet friendly aspects of the dog walking areas.
