Lake Anna Veterinary HospitalThe staff at Lake Anna Veterinary Hospital go above and beyond. Besides the new facilty with the ability to do just about anything, the staff is AH-MAZE-ING.
Being in a rural area, we've had the unfortunate experience of having a dog hit by a car. One of the staff at Lake Anna happened to be on their way home from work when they saw Caddy get hit. They stopped. When they realized that nothing could be done, they sat with her and held her until she passed, telling me later that "no pet should have to die alone like that."
Dr. Slovis recently performed CCL surgery on our dog, Mia. I was frightened because of all of the nightmares I had heard about recovery. He assured me that all was well and her recuperation time was a fraction of the stories that others tell.
They really care
Ashland Veterinary HospitalWe have taken multiple pets to Ashland Veterinary Hospital for check-ups, issues, and surgery. All of the doctors there helpful and compassionate. They offer "calming bandanas" for your pets and have seperate IN and OUT doors to prevent traffic jams.
Better than Home
Wingmont KennelsI drive an hour to take my goldendoodle to Wingmont because of how wonderful it is. They have plenty of room for play, a pool, and the option to even have pictures taken of your dog and put on Facebook. She comes home exhuasted!
They took excellent care of her after her CCL surgery when I was called out of town. They gave her the 3 times a day medication and were gentle in letting her "take care of business." They treat her better than I do (sometimes)!
Just Pawsome!
Park Lane TavernOur son found this on Bring Fido- you did not lie! They brought Mia a bowl with filtered water and a BLANKET to lie on. The menu was reasonably priced and varied. My son got the salmon and I got the Oktoberfest burger- oh my stars! We also had the Bavarian pretzels and I had the banana foster cheesecake. Everything was great. There were 2 other dogs there (and this was on a Thursday afternoon!) We'll be returning.
Lots of grass
Wingate by Wyndham Dublin Near Claytor Lake State ParkWe came here for Radford University Family Weekend. It is right off the interstate a few exits away- but the room was still fairly quiet. The room was clean with standard stuff- microwave, fridge, iron. It's nothing fancy, but does the job. The managers are very kind. What won me over is the abundance of grassy areas with the type of grass that allows for easy clean-up (after our puppy takes care of business). I am sure they did not do this intentionally, but it made my stay more pleasant. There were a few other dogs and there were enough grassy areas for everyone to have their own space. I would have preferred a ground floor room, but my Mia handles stairs just fine (there is no elevator), so it wasn't a big issue.
Popular Dog Destination
El BroncoWe put our name on the list to be seated and waited outside. The hostess came outside to tell us our table was ready (instead of one of us having to wait inside). The patio area was a decent size (10-15 tables) and another dog was there. While waiting, we saw another dog leaving with their family. Food-wise, the portions are big and the menu is varied from the typical Mexican restaurant. The service was so-so. The parking was difficult- we ended up parking in a lot across the road.
Popular Pup Pub
BT's RestaurantWe went during Parents Weekend, so it was super crowded. The waiting area was congested and not well ventilated, so waiting was not fun. They were able to get us a table on the patio. We walked through the bar to get there (didn't bother our Mia, but the noise could be an issue for some pups). We were seated at a picnic table near the door(again, it was Family Weekend and -from the looks of some customers- after a soccer or rugby game). There were other dogs there- a German shepherd and 2 small dogs. The food was good and plentiful. The carrot cake was superb! Our Mia is used to a lot of noise and commotion, but this is not the place for a timid dog.
They love dogs
StuftIt had rained earlier and the outside seating (picnic tables) was wet. So they let us come inside WITH our dog! It was a week night and early, so it wasn't busy.
The server immediately offered to get our dog water, before she asked for our order. Everyone who came by the table not only appreciated our Mia, but showed respect by asking to pet her and approaching her gently.
As for the food, it was good and there was a lot of it! The burritos were bigger than my hand (2 meals) and the prices are reasonable.
We told them we'd be back next week!
Remind them of the back patio!
O'Brien's Oyster Bar & Seafood TavernWe were put off at first by the host who said there was no room for us (when we saw empty outdoor tables). I asked a server if there were any available and she took us to the back patio. She walked us right through the bar area to it! It was perfect! Under a canopy, away from the distractions of the street. There was plenty of room for Mia to spread out without getting her tail caught. The food is to-die-for! Warning: they pour their cocktails STRONG. They left a pitcher of water for us (I carry a collapsible bowl). There was a dachshund at the table next to us, so the secret is getting out.
Wonderful service
Luna BluWent for one of the "Dinner Under the Stars" evenings with my Doodle. Because of the Annapolis sponsored event, there was plenty of outdoor seating (reservations are STRONGLY recommended- I lucked out when someone didn't show for theirs!). Food is really good, best Sangria I've had in a long time. They have the water bowl while waiting, but the staff there is so attentive, I have no doubt they would have brought Mia a bowl to our table if I'd asked. (I carry a collapsible one). They left a pitcher at the table. The staff asked about her and "appreciated" her. Wonderful place.
Closed!
Red Fish Blue FishWe were hoping to visit, but found it closed- guess it didn't survive the quarantine.
Plenty of pals
Stock Island Marina Village Dog ParkWhether you stay at the Perry (the posh hotel) or on your boat, Stock Island is welcoming to all breeds. During our recent stay, we took our golden doodle everywhere. They have 2 outdoor restaurants that welcome dogs, including providing water bowls they have two dog areas- one for small dogs and one for larger- with artificial grass and provided "doggie bags."
We stayed on our boat, so I can't comment on the hotel rooms. I can say our dog enjoyed the stay as much as we did.
