Great Hotel

Wow! We will be going back here for sure! Starting with the decor, it was beautiful—all kinds of gorgeous little touches. A beautiful cane dresser in the sitting room of our suite, a comfy couch with perfectly chosen pillows, great little wet bar area, a table with two chairs. The carpet and wallpaper were perfect. In the bedroom, the closet was massive. And there was a vanity. The bed was soft and comfortable.

Our dog received a little package of welcome treats and pets from the staff. There’s a little grassy area with a poop bag dispenser directly across the street toward the Harris Teeter. We walked our dog down Washington Street, which was a nice walk with enough grassy areas. There is also a park nearby. And having the Harris Teeter right there was a huge convenience.

The location was great. It was within walking distance of excellent dining and shopping but not right in the middle of it. The South Carolina Aquarium as well as the Yorktown Museum Ship and Fort Sumter.
Do stay at this excellent hotel. You’ll be very happy.

Beautiful surroundings

We were so pleased with the Homewood Suites (which shares the property with a Hilton Garden Inn). The grounds were lovely and well lit with several seating areas and a fire pit. The lobby was very nice and included a store for snacks including microwaveable items. Our room was spacious so there was plenty of room to set up our dog’s crate. The outdoor areas were great for dog walks. It’s a quiet area with several hotels in this class but very spread out so not a lot of traffic. We were here for just one night (Dec 25) but we would gladly stay longer. Our suite included a full-sized fridge and kitchen with dishes. Also, all the staff were friendly and attentive.

Great room and location!

We loved this place because it wasn’t right in the middle of downtown, yet still close enough to drive to anything in 10-15 minutes. Our room was wonderful. It was a King Suite. We had enough room for our dog’s crate. Also, a full-sized refrigerator and a microwave (in case you travel with any frozen, refrigerated, or heatable food for your dog). There were nice grassy areas just outside.

The only problem was the elevator situation was simply awful. It wouldn’t stop at any floor going from the lobby without going up to the fourth floor and back down. It groaned like it was about to break down and went 10x slower than any normal, functional elevator. It was 9 minutes to get from the lobby to the second floor. (The other elevator didn’t work at all). Thankfully, we were at the end of the hall next to a staircase. Our long-bodied dog doesn’t use stairs but she’s light enough to carry. The staff person on duty didn’t seem to care although perhaps she has heard many complaints and tried to get it fixed.

Nice grass around the property

It was really good for our dog. It was nice having a place to take her out for her business. That said, there wasn’t much else for dog walking nearby.

Nice place to spend the night

Lots of nice green lawn out from for doggie business. I didn’t see a bag dispenser but we should always bring our own, right? We heard some other dogs barking so we felt like we were in a nice down-to-earth place where people wouldn’t complain if Maggie talked a bit. Very nice!

We love this place

This was our fifth stay here. We love it because it’s beautifully decorated and the king rooms are spacious to fit Maggie’s crate. There’s a nice little lawn in front of the lobby. They did have a little poopy bag dispenser on our previous visits but I didn’t see it this time. No matter. Just don’t forget your bags. There’s a cute little pet store right up the street called Top Dog. We always take Maggie and let her pick out a toy. The hotel staff are always so nice to us and Maggie. Huntington Dog Beach is great.

Nice location!

Our dog likes the beach and it is only two blocks away. Also, there is a lot of grass in the neighborhood for walks and doggie "business." Bring your own bags. The room was small and they don't have a way for you to access your own Netflix, etc. like they do at some Holiday Inn Express locations. But listen, it's two blocks from the beach in one of the most beautiful towns in California. Wonderful! Thank you.

Great hotel, nice staff

All the hotel staff were so nice to our furbaby. The only thing I wished for was a better place for her to "do her business." The area outside was filled with little pebbles, which seemed a little painful for our dog to walk on. She's a bit of a tenderfoot so maybe it's okay for others. Maybe the hotel could just rake the pebbles off of the "poopy place." They had a nice bag dispenser and trash can.

Nice

The room was spacious so plenty of room for our dog's crate. Everything is weird with COVID so it's hard to really comment on anything other than the accommodations for dogs to take care of business. We've stayed at a few hotels where the property thoughtfully provides a piece of Astroturf for this purpose and that is what this hotel did. It could have used a bit of freshening, but other than that, very nice.

Very nice people, nice area in some ways

We always travel with our dog's travel crate and avoid hotels that won't let us leave her in the room while we go out on non-dog-friendly activities. Mostly we're with her or take her with us when we go out. This hotel was right off State Street and there was a nice little restaurant called the Cruisery that had a bunch of water dishes out front. The only problem was not being able to find much of a "pottie" place nearby. There are some dirt patches but they're not very big. It's about 10 blocks from the beach and you can take your dog on the pier on a leash. I didn't try to walk on the actual beach with her so don't know if that was okay or not. State Street is a nice walk. There are lots of other people walking their dogs and it's abuzz with activity because everybody serving food outside due to COVID restrictions. All in all, very nice.
