Can’t Beat The Setting
Gamble Rogers Memorial State Recreation Area CampgroundCamping on the water is unbelievable. You can hear the tide at night and you wake to a view unlike any other. Sites are good size, but close together with little to no privacy in between. There are dog walking areas with bags and areas for disposal. The only negative is you can’t take your dog on the beach! That said, park staff pointed us to a small dog beach by the water tower where you are allowed to bring Fido. Interesting enough, less than a mile from the park we went to a pet friendly outdoor restaurant. They told us we were allowed on the beach with Lily and there were many others with dogs, so we went with no problems. Must be a park thing.
Tuna was Fantastic!
Turtle Shack CafeLily was welcomed by a sweet server (don’t remember her name) with a bowl of fresh water. We ordered the shrimp po boy and the peppered ahi tuna with blueberry teriyaki. Shrimp were big and plump, with flaky batter on a delicious fresh roll. The tuna was outstanding! Blueberry teriyaki sounded unusual but was delicious and the tuna was high quality and fresh. Try it!
Very Dog Friendly!
Lagerheads Bar and GrillWe walked right up to an outside table, and Lily was welcomed right in! JR introduced himself to us and to Lily, and brought her a bowl of water and a handful of biscuits. we ordered the grouper sandwich and a patty melt. Fish was super fresh and my husband raved at the way the patty melt was on nice fresh bread that didn’t get soggy on the bottom of the plate! JR checked back regularly to see if Lily had enough water and treats, and just to give her a couple of scratches. We enjoyed the whole experience and will definitely be back.
Our favorite for YEARS
High Tides @ Snack Jackwe have loved Snack Jacks since the first time we came here about 15 years ago! This was our first trip with Lily and though we arrived 25 minutes before opening, we were greeted with a welcome to enjoy a drink and a bowl of water for Lily. once the cook arrived we started with conch fritters which were fresh and delicious! We ordered red fish tacos and a chicken club, and everything was great. Service was great as always. Beachside patio is perfect for dining outside with plenty of room for the dogs to have their own space. Only disappointment was they were out of pupsicles :(
