Cozy motel
Murphy's ResortHad an enjoyable visit with the fur ball. Motel staff provided proactive and excellent service, such as texting us once the room was ready for check-in. Lots of neat touches, like the DVD and board game collection, free popcorn, bicycles for free rental, etc. Room was spacious and clean. No issues leaving the fur ball in the room; he had a wonderful time sleeping in while we explored the Rocky Mountain National Park.
Pretty good
La Quinta by Wyndham BentonvilleRoom was spacious and clean. Shower had good water pressure. Conveniently located and a short drive to downtown and crystal bridges (which is a great option for taking the dog for a walk/hike). Breakfast was above average. Only downside was the rather noisy AC.
Good stay
Best Western Inn of the OzarksClean, spacious room. Lots of nature options around, including the Black Bass Lake trail. Close to Main Street.
Exceptional property
Annabell GardensProperty was very well maintained. Lots of grassy areas. Room was excellent; bed was very comfortable. Kitchen well supplied for longer stays. Decor was thoughtful, with books and records curated for your enjoyment. Dog slept well on the couch.
Perfect stay
Microtel Inn & Suites by Wyndham KearneyClean rooms and sheets. Lots of grassy areas around hotel. Short drive to parks; Yanney Park is a great option for a morning or evening walk.
Goatheads a real hazard to dogs
Motel 6 Santa Rosa NMNot suitable for dogs. The dog relief areas were full of goatheads (an invasive plant species with sharp spikes on little balls). Some of the spiky spurs lodged onto my dog’s paws when he went to potty and were painful to remove. It would have been worse if he swallowed one of them as the plant is also toxic to dogs. The motel and room were nothing to write home about. No basic amenities like shampoo (only a bar of soap) or coffee in the room. Poorly insulated which sucks in winter. Noisy too due to the freeway next to the rooms in the rear.
Great option on Route 66
Best Western Plus WeatherfordOn the pricier side but had a great stay. Room was clean and comfortable. A small relief area for dogs. Don’t skip breakfast - great spread including fluffy scrambled eggs, crispy bacon, biscuits and gravy, as well as amazing tamales. Location is fantastic on Main Street. The Shed Bar and Grill was a great find (not dog-friendly, unfortunately).
You get what you pay for
Red Roof Inn PLUS+ Wichita EastAs one of the more affordable options with no pet fee, hotel was acceptable. Rom was clean. Mattress a little uncomfortable and too much noise from aircraft made it a little difficult to sleep well. Dog liked it fine but would have liked actual relief areas instead of patches of grass and pebbles. Surroundings felt safe although crossing the big roads to restaurants like Bubba’s 33 was a little scary for him.
Great food and accommodating staff
Bubba's 33this is a great option if you are staying at the nearby Red Roof Plus+ as it is only a 5 minute walk away. there was some initial confusion among the staff about the restaurant’s dog policy but that was sorted out quickly. the patio was rather cold so our server made helpful arrangements. the food was decent to good. the pizza in particular deserves a shout-out. beers were nice and cold but the margaritas could perhaps have been a little stronger. the dog had a great time watching everyone have a good time.
