Charming, dog friendly, super hosts

We arrived limping on a spare tire after a front tire blowout in the last tunnel thru the Austrian Alps. We were exhausted and our 2 dogs were tired and distressed. The hosts welcomed us all warmly, and made sure the room would have space enough for both dogs. The owner referred us to a local auto garage he has dealt with for many years, that got us the tires we needed. We had to lay over one more night, but despite the circumstances, we were happy to have a day of respite, as this place was so nice, and reasonably priced.

Some things to be aware of: The restaurant is excellent, but a bit pricey if you're on a budget. The only other one in the old town location has a Michelin chef and only a 7-course chef's menu every night. But there are plenty of eateries a short drive into nearby Bled.

Parking presents difficulties. Only residents can enter the old town where the pension is located. There is a small town parking lot about 200 meters away, but it's hard to get a space, and the regime requires moving your car periodically. The hosts can explain the vagaries. If you're in the off season as we were, the hosts might be able to arrange for you to park in their space behind the hotel. Be sure to contact them if you need parking.

The nearest place for dogs to do their business is a park about 200 meters from the rear entrance. It's not lit at night, so if your phone has a torch mode, you'll need it. If you walk into the right place on the path, some lighting will come on for 10 minutes or so. I only discovered that the second night.

In short, Gostilna Lectar was a lovely experience despite our bit of adversity. We were sorry to leave and hope to return sometime.

Accomodating staff

Very glad they have 24/7 check-in, as our ferry from Latvia was delayed 6 hours by weather. No problem requesting late checkout. The standard room was a bit small for us with 2 dogs, one large, but it was carpeted so we didn't need to bring in bedding for the mutts. Comfortable bed for humans, typical German clean. Breakfast ok, but not best value for money. But there's nothing else close that was open.
All in all, a good stopover.

Dogs loved room

Don't get their breakfast. There's a nice bakery and cafe and a McCafe a short walk away. Also grocery stores and a pet store " Fallami". The Turkish restaurant at the far end of the shopping center has superb food reasonably priced. Dogs loved our ground floor room 111. Space under the TV counter for their bedding... like a den. Downside for dogs was toilet facilities. Everything around paved. But going out the driveway about halfway to the street, looking left there was a vacant lot that served. Human bed was excellent, we rested well.
