Dogs are welcome to run free at this members-only dog park in Whispering Pines, NC. Pooch Park In The Pines, a 3.5-acre recreation area, features two gated spaces, one for small dogs under 25 lbs and one for large dogs over 25 lbs. Both sites also have several waste stations with bags and trash cans.

Densons Creek Nature Trail is an easy 2.2-mile pet-friendly hike in Uwharrie National Forest that will take about 1.5 hours to complete with Fido. This 53,000-acre national forest is only an hour east of Charlotte and offers pleasant woodland, lakes and rivers. This particular trail in Troy, NC, is one of the shorter in the woods and provides ample shade. Please note that dogs must be on a leash no longer than 6 feet.

National Athletic Village is pet-friendly. This recreation spot is home to 70+ acres of trails and obstacle courses with a huge field at its center. Entry into the park is $10, and guests are welcome to bring leashed dogs along, too. Dogs are not allowed inside any of the buildings. National Athletic Village is open Sunday through Friday from 2pm to 8pm and Monday from 10am to 8pm.
