The holidays may be over, but the fun is just beginning for Fido this January. Whether he’s showing off tricks at a dog show, trekking through trails, or enjoying a sledding adventure, there’s plenty to keep his tail wagging. Explore these dog-friendly events to start the year off on the right paw!

Hike With Hounds

Trekking terriers will love Hike With Hounds, a fun-filled journey led by a certified dog trainer and interpreter. This event is perfect for teaching your four-legged friend how to become the “ulti-mutt” hiking companion while exploring the scenic trails of Sonoma Valley Regional Park. Along the way, you’ll pick up tips for trail etiquette, learn about canine-friendly hiking practices, and bond with your pup in a beautiful natural setting. Whether your dog is a seasoned trailblazer or a curious beginner, this hike is sure to be a hit.

Hike With Hounds takes place on January 16 from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Sonoma Valley Regional Park - Highway 12 Trailhead in Glen Ellen, CA. The event is free to join, but there is a $7 parking fee for those without a Regional Parks membership pass. Don’t forget to pack trail snacks and book your overnight stay at the Olea Hotel, where Fido will be welcomed with bowls, a bed and treats.

Family Dog Pull

Get ready to race at Grand Haven’s annual Winterfest celebration. Bundle up, clip Fido’s harness on, and head to Mulligan's Hollow for the Family Dog Pull. This adrenaline-pumping event invites kids of all ages to see just how fast their four-legged companions can pull them in a sled. Bring your pup and your sense of adventure for a winter experience you won’t want to miss!

Grand Haven hounds can mark their calendars for January 27 from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Best of all, admission is free. After the race, let Fido burn off any extra energy at the onsite dog park before relaxing at the Baymont by Wyndham Grand Haven.

Dog Days of Winter: Bow Wow Luau

Escape to the tropics at the Dog Days of Winter: Bow Wow Luau. This festive gathering invites Fido and family to bundle up for a 1-mile tiki trail walk through Thiensville Village Park. Along the way, enjoy photo opportunities, shop local pet-centric vendors, and cozy up with a warm meal to recharge. It’s the perfect chance to support a great cause while bringing a little sunshine to your winter day.

Join the fun on January 12 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Thiensville Village Park in Thiensville, WI. Admission is $30 per dog for pre-registration or $35 on the event day. Registered dogs will get a swag bag and a lei to celebrate. All proceeds benefit the local park, making it a great way to support the community. Stay for the weekend at the adorable Fairground Flat, a vacation rental with a spacious yard in nearby Cedarburg.

WinterPaws Dog Show

Blowing Rock WinterFest invites you to their annual WinterPaws Dog Show, where any pup can join as a spectator or “pawticipant”. With categories like Most Unique Breed, Most Clever Trick, Best Winter Wear, Cutest Dog, Best in Show, and Owner Look-a-Like, there’s something for every furry friend to show off their personality and skills.

The WinterPaws Dog Show takes place at Blowing Rock School Gym in Blowing Rock, NC, from noon to 3 p.m. on January 28. Admission is $5, plus there’s an additional registration fee of $5 or three canned goods per category for competitors. Proceeds will be donated to local law enforcement K-9 units and the Hunger and Health Coalition. Stay warm afterward with a freshly brewed coffee from Camp Coffee Roasters and spend a cozy night at the Holiday Inn Express Blowing Rock South an IHG Hotel.

Annual Run for the Paws 5K

Leash up your Sunshine State Spaniel for The Humane Society Naples’ 19th Annual Run for the Paws 5K. Thousands of runners and their dogs have participated over the years, making this a beloved community event. Held at the Paradise Coast Sports Complex, the flat course is accessible for walkers, new runners, and seasoned participants alike, and you’ll be supporting shelter animals in the process.

To participate, head over to the Paradise Coast Sports Complex in Naples, FL on January 25 at 8 a.m. Admission, which includes a Run for the Paws T-shirt and finishers item, is $25-$35 and benefits The Humane Society Naples. For your weekend in dog-friendly Naples, make a reservation at the La Quinta by Wyndham Naples Downtown.

Hendricks Humane Dogtona

Hendricks Humane Dogtona is an annual indoor event where every dog can have his day. There’ll be a variety of games, exciting demos, and booths filled with great info and exhibitors. Rescue groups will also be on-site with adoptable dogs, and attendees can enjoy the Any-Dog dog show and refreshments at the K-9 Kafe. Bring Fido to this dog-friendly event on January 19 from noon to 4 p.m. at the Hendricks County Fairgrounds & Conference Center in Danville, IN. Admission is $5 per dog, and all proceeds support the Hendricks County Humane Society. Need to rest afterward? My Place Hotel - Indianapolis Airport/Plainfield IN welcomes two pets up to 80 lbs for an additional fee of just $15 per pet, per night.
