Pet-Friendly Hotels that Give Back

Posted by Billy Francis

We all have a favorite pet-friendly hotel that goes above and beyond to accommodate our furry best friend, but what about dogs who aren’t lucky enough to enjoy a night in a hotel? When you know your pet fee is being used for the good of the canine kind, it’s not such a big deal when you have to hand over the cash. These pet-friendly hotels don’t just love four-legged guests coming to stay, but give back to the pet community in a variety of ways.

Best Friends Roadhouse & Mercantile is one of the most dog-friendly hotels in America. This delightful pet-centric hotel is your in-town connection to Best Friends Animal Sanctuary, raising money with every stay for the largest no-kill shelter of its kind in the country. The sanctuary is home to up to 1,600 dogs, cats, birds, bunnies, horses, pigs and other animals at any given time. As a 501c nonprofit organization, it relies on the generosity of guests at the Roadhouse, and pet-friendly cabins and cottages to help raise money for continued work. During the day, hop on the complimentary shuttle to the sanctuary and take a free guided tour of the facilities to meet some of the animal residents or volunteer to help out. If Fido isn’t joining you on the excursion, you can arrange a sleepover in the Roadhouse and give a resident dog, cat or bunny a night to remember.

Designed with furry guests in mind, Best Friends Roadhouse & Mercantile features 40 rooms with unique pet-centric features like pull-out dog beds and pet cubbies and offers an on-site dog park with a splash pad. Book a stay and help give back today.

Some hotels donate a portion of profits to local animal shelters, but Aloft Greenville Downtown goes one step further by fostering adoptable dogs until they find a forever home. Since the program started in 2016, nearly 100 dogs have made the trip from Greenville County Animal Care to stay in a special doghouse in the reception area and be cared for by hotel staff. Guests who end up leaving with a new four-legged friend receive a pet package with treats and other swag from local pet store and groomer, Woof Gang Bakery. Just across the border in North Carolina, Aloft Asheville Downtown also plays host to dogs looking for a new home.

Located in the heart of the city, Aloft Greenville Downtown invites visitors to the Upstate to stay in a pet-friendly room with pet bowls, beds and toys available upon request and a dog run on the sixth floor.

Kimpton Monaco Denver goes all out for National Dog Day on August 26 each year, offering guests a Puppy + Prosecco package. This includes a one-night stay in a luxury or executive suite with 30 minutes of puppy playtime, Prosecco, Italian bites to eat and credit to the on-site restaurant. The package starts at $550, with half of the proceeds donated to the local shelter Lifeline Puppy Rescue. Kimpton is one of the most pet-friendly hotel chains, so it’s no surprise that other locations are also dedicated to bettering the lives of canines. Four-legged guests at the Kimpton Alton Hotel-Fisherman's Wharf in San Francisco can sign up for the Foggy Dog Package, which gives 20% of proceeds to SF SPCA.

Book a stay at the Kimpton Monaco Denver any time of year and Fido will receive the use of a bed and bowls, and can catch a couple of treats at check-in.

Partnering with Nashville Humane Association, Bobby Hotel in pet-friendly Nashville has created a gift that keeps on giving, the Dog-In-Residence Pet Program. Each year, the hotel rescues a dog from the shelter and works with local trainer Linda Gregg for emotional support animal training. Then, when the year comes to a close, the awesome pooch is ready to share everything they’ve learned at their forever home with a U.S. Veteran in need.

During your stay at the Bobby Hotel, meet the latest Dog-In-Residence at reception then retire to your room and order Fido a meal from the pet room service menu.

Kitty is the adorable canine mascot at The St. Regis Aspen. In addition to delighting guests at check-in and entertaining his vast following on social media, he plays host to Bark'n'Brews: Monthly Pawty on the Patio. Kitty is always in attendance at this afternoon party for the local Aspen community and resort guests, and money raised benefits Lucky Day Animal Rescue of Colorado. Attendees make a $10 donation, which includes two beverages and the chance to win a stay at the resort. All proceeds from the monthly event go straight to the rescue.

Kitty isn’t the only dog to receive 5-star treatment at The St. Regis Aspen. Book a room for Fido and he can eat like a king with dinner from the puppy menu and can even borrow Doggles to use on the trails outside.

At animal shelters and rescue facilities across the country, senior pets are often the last to be adopted. Harbor Court Hotel has joined forces with Muttville Senior Dog Rescue to help often overlooked but just as loveable senior dogs find a forever home. Guests who turn down regular housekeeping service not only help the planet by saving on resources, but the hotel will send the saved money straight to the rescue to be put to good use.

Sleep soundly with your pooch knowing your hard-earned cash is going to a good cause in a pet-friendly room at Harbor Court Hotel.
