Description

Please join us for a Candlelight Vigil on International Homeless Animals' Day, on August 21, at the Palm Desert Civic Center Park, Pavillion 1, at 6:30 pm. In 1992, International Society for animal Rights introduced International Homeless Animals’ Day and Candlelight Vigils as an innovative educational vehicle with a purpose of informing society, our elected officials and the media of a tragedy that overwhelms animal shelters around the globe – pet overpopulation. Organizations around the world come together on the third Saturday of August to raise awareness about the pet overpopulation epidemic and its single solution - spay/neuter. Not only does this shed light on pet overpopulation by memorializing the millions of cats and dogs killed each year in shelters, it also beams with hope and inspiration by igniting new spay/neuter/adoption campaigns and rekindling existing ones. Desert Paws is organizing the Coachella Valley's International Homeless Animals’ Day vigil- to let our community (and the world) know we will not tolerate the senseless killing that continues to take the lives of innocent dogs and cats simply because there are not enough good homes for them. We will be commemorating the dogs, cats, kittens and puppies killed in shelters in the last year because they were homeless due to pet overpopulation. Our country’s first animal rights attorney and Chairman of ISAR, Professor Henry Mark Holzer, will be among the speakers and Dr. Lori Kirshner will lead the ceremony, which will be no longer than one hour in duration. Everyone is invited, including dogs, so please invite your friends and family. Memory bracelets will be available for the first 100 guests and Desert Paws will provide glow sticks to serve as candles. No solicitations will be made. Information also posted on at www.desertpaws.org. To learn more about International Homeless Animals' Day, please visit www.isaronline.org.
