Day of the Dead at Janitzio

The Day of the Dead in Janitzio is one of the most important religious events in Mexico. On the eve of the Day of the Dead, everything is a party atmosphere until it's time for bells and souls to ring, while the living begin to congregate before the deadly spoils of those who have left. During the night of November 1st, people arrive at the graves with offerings, flowers, bread, fruits, symbols and memories to venerate their beings that are no longer materially. They erect an altar and sit down to contemplate the flames of their candles as they mutter prayers all night.
