  Overcharged for 2 nights

  I had to fight my credit card for 4 months. They charged me for a second day. It was a dump & they created fraudulent documentation and sent it to Citibank. The WORST HOTEL EVER!

  Very pet friendly

  We originally reserved a room in the hotel but due to renovations we were moved to a cabin. They look brand new and are very sweet. There is a dog park and beach for the fur babies. The accommodations are very pet friendly. Loads of things to do at the resort.

  Great location!

  Wonderful location, just north of the Chesapeake Bay bridge tunnel. My room in the motel was extremely clean and very nicely done. The place was very dog friendly and there were numerous dogs in the sizable campground between the motel and the beach. The beach is lovely and the staff was very welcoming. I would stay here again anytime!

  Great for Our Pub

  Very welcoming to Emma our dog) and to us as well. Very large grassy areas plus a dog park and beach for digs to roam in on leash and lots of dog stations throughout the property. We had a bit of problem with our room ( this the 3 bones) but on the plus side the staff were more than accommodating to help fix concerns so would stay again if we were in the area.

  Our reservation was mismanaged

  I had requested a king bed. They had nothing ready for us and we were there at 10 minutes to 4. They put us in a room with 2 queens. The room is filthy. Sand all over the floor. Tub and shower were dirty. The area directly outside of our room was littered with cigarette butts. The front desk was completely out of control there were only 2 women there and they were completely overworked. It was very difficult to get a clear answer from them as to why they didn't have a king bed for us. I will never stay here again. Ever.

  Fantastic stay

  We had a great overnight at this resort. The room was comfortable and clean. The beach was over the top!! My dog was so happy, swimming, digging, swimming, leaping through the water! Oh, and we enjoyed it to. My only complaint would be that the restaurant was not open for the season yet, it looked good.

  Pros and Cons

  Pros: great location, clean and comfortable beds, absolutely no pet odor. Cons: Second floor with no elevator, bathroom definitely needed to be cleaner, highway traffic can be heard.

  Great place to stay

  Located right before the long Chesapeake Bridge, perfect stop on the way to OBX. They are very dog friendly and dogs go in the store and people working there interact with the dogs. The bathroom needed some work but compared to amenities of pool and beach, who cares about the shower. Room was nice, beds were comfy. The best was RV Park people are the nicest group of people and most had dogs. Loved it!

  FANTASTIC location, not a resort, but a motel.

  THAT SAID, the staff were super friendly and accommodating, the Jackspot bar and grille has GREAT food and drinks, and we enjoyed our time all throughout the KOA: the two pools are clean and well kept, and the dog-friendly beach was a blast. We'll definitely be back, but will likely stay in a cabin instead of the motel!

  Disappointment

  Glad this place was pet friendly but it's in desperate need of repairs and updating. "Resort" is a joke, bathroom tub needed caulking, it's door was peeling. No bedside tables or lights. Coffee pots but no coffee or cups. Site not updated for COVID-19 - claims to offer breakfast but doesn't. Poor service for check-in and check-out.

  Sad to see it going downhill

  The last 3 times we stayed at Sunset Beach Resort, it went from nice to awful in a matter of a few months. It appears that the guests staying there are trashing this place beyond imagination and the maintenance team is not up to the task. Clogged sinks, mold in the bathrooms, TV remote not working, faucets falling apart, sand on the floor, no coffee in the room or at the buffet, the list goes on. Yes, the sunset is nice!

  Clean and very pet friendly!

  Love the food and restaurant at the beach! The rooms were nice and clean. A few little things like the smallest towels ever, no tissues available for the few days we were there, and the toilet paper holder was broken. The AC was perfect! The bed comfortable, so all good.

  Clean and plenty of places to walk and enjoy with dogs. The crowd on weekend young and a little loud so my dogs barked all night at constant noise but otherwise a decent place

  Unless you are using the KOA campground I can't recommend this "resort"
  The hotel room we stayed in had a filthy toilet, a non working phone, a non draining toilet and no hangers. No advertised pools or restaurant.
  Painters with loud generates and power painters started at 8 am.
  No ice machines.
  Nice Sunset though

  Best pet friendly hotel that we have stayed at!

  We loved it here. First off we never leave home without our dogs on vacation so it is sometimes difficult to find a good place where we can relax and enjoy our dogs at the same time. Not anymore because we found this pet friendly hotel by accident and will come back every year with our fur babies! The dogs had the best time at the off leash beach and the dog park. Everything was so convenient that we didn’t have to leave the resort unless we wanted to. There is a shop that you can purchase anything you may have forgot or need. If you are looking for a place to have fun with your dogs you will love it here!

  Engineered hardwood floors, dog bowls, plenty of green space to walk, doggie bag dispensers everywhere, even a beach where dogs are welcome- all great for the dog. Room was ok until you got to bathroom. Lots of mold around the tub. Maybe not the worst motel room I have stayed in, but ...

  Perfect Pit Stop on the way to OBX

  We chose Sunset Beach Resort for a one night hotel stay as we traveled from PA to NC for a week's vacation. The staff could not have been more friendly. It was great to have not only a pet friendly room, but a dog water bowl waiting for us. We were able to enjoy dinner at the Jack Spot which was delicious. My dog had a great time on the dog beach as well as playing with new friends at the dog park. There are plenty of bag stations around the property. I would highly recommend this hotel for anyone looking for a pet friendly place to stay in this area!
