Black Canyon Motel welcomes one dog up to 40 lbs for an additional fee of $20 per night. Guests with dogs are allowed in six of the designated rooms with either one King bed or two Queen beds. Dogs may not be left unattended at any time. There is a grassy relief area in front of the property. Sorry, cats are not permitted. The Black Canyon Motel is located within 30 minutes to some of the best hunting fishing snow mobiling in the state only 19 minutes to Ridgeway Reservoir only 40 miles to Blue Mesa Reservoir. We are about one hour from Telluride Ski Area and only 9 miles to the Black Canyon National Park.

I booked a king bed room and it was spacious. The room is carpeted and the carpet is pretty worn. The “pet relief” area is pretty much non-existent. It is a dry patch of land with old feces and weeds near the busy highway. The bed in my room was pretty comfortable though. I’ve stayed in better places in Montrose with better areas for dogs.

The stay was ok. We ended up walking across the street with the dogs to find some nice grass. The gentleman at the front desk was pretty gruff. We ended up opening the window to get some air in the room. The shower pressure was great!!! The TV remote had no battery cover, so we had to hold the batteries in place to get the TV to work.

I've stayed here twice now, in 2016 and 2018, both times between Christmas and New Years. The room and the service both times were excellent! I like to go there in winter as there's snowshoeing close by and a number of ski resorts within an hour to an hour-and-a-half drive. The Black Canyon Motel is an excellent base!
