We left our home in Cape Coral under a mandatory evacuation order, less than a mile from Matlacha where the town was decimated, with a buoy reading wind speeds of up to 179 miles per hour. We sustained a lot of damage to our home. But we are safe. While staying at the Marriot was more comforting than being in our home with warnings of a possible 18 foot storm surge, we were still hit with terrible thunderstorms and tornadoes.
I fed our small dog in our room and left a small amount of her food on the floor in her bowl so she could finish it later. The next morning our room was infested by tiny ants (our room was on the 7th floor with construction going on in the room next to ours). I found out when I picked up her bowl in the morning, and they climbed all over my arm. The ants were in her dog bed (which was on the other side of the room, all over the carpet, with a conga line of them going out the main door to our room and to the balcony hurricane sliders.
I immediately called the front desk, and they sent a man up with a can of wasp spray. It did kill the ants that we sprayed but the smell was very powerful. The ants returned (I did not keep her food down). We had to deal with these ants for three days/two nights. We’ve been home 11 days since our hotel stay at the Marriott, with no power or water. The staff at the hotel were nice and have noted our issues in their system. I’d really like for this stay to be adjusted accordingly.
