Created in the 1870s, Grand Hotel National Luzern is located on the lakeside promenade, within walking distance of the downtown area, and approximately 40 miles from Zurich International Airport. This location is also within walking distance of the old city and the famous Chapel Bridge, the medieval wooden bridge that crosses the Rheuss, the river of Lucerne. From the hotel there are views across the lake to the Alps and one can see the famous Rigi, Stanserhorn, and Pilatus mountains. Guests have included monarchs and diplomats from all over Europe.
