I booked a stay here because I had two cats and two dogs with me and we were moving from Colorado to Austin. After making a few calls I quickly realized that legitimately bringing that many animals would be near impossible. I looked at BringFido and it said Hotel Vernon would accept us with a fee.
The hotel was disgusting to begin with as cockroaches climbed on our walls and a bathtub I would never touch. In the morning we are unable to locate my 14 year old cat. I looked all over the room only to find there was nowhere for him to hide! I ran outside but no cat to be found. I let the front know only to be told., "There's tons of stray cats here you expect me to spot yours?"
Four days later I receive a call from the hotel. We found your cat in the room stuck in the box spring so we THREW HIM OUTSIDE! At this point, I'm 6 hours way and ask the front if there's anyway someone can grab him and they say NOPE. With a lot of hard work he has since been found, but I want to warn anyone with pets who stay here.

We stayed here on the way home from thanksgiving. we read the reviews and it seemed great… billboards all said pet friendly. We arrived and realized it was actually motel style with outside facing doors, which is fine, we actually like that as our dog dislikes slippery tile floors. check in went fine, looked nice, had some lawn area, seemed fine. We got to the room and this seemed fine too… textured laminate floors weren’t slippery so greyhound approved. Then we took our dog (greyhound) out to potty… this is where the trouble started.
The “lawn” areas we saw were really just mowed weeds and full of thorns and goat heads! she had a hard time even walking on the “grass” and I wouldn’t walk on it without shoes either, it was very sharp! But she’s also well trained to not do her business except on grass, so there were no great options! Even “lawn” areas surrounding the hotel had these same thorns and stickers so there was really no way to do her business comfortably. Each walk we did she got a goat head stuck in her soft part of her pad and limped until I could remove it. The yipe she made removing it and image of her limping will stick with me. I don’t think this problem was unique to this hotel - it seemed most of the “lawns” in the area were the same… possibly a seasonal problem?
As we were getting ready to leave we realized she had spilled some water and cleaned it with a towel - the towel was dark and gross from drying just a few splashes of water… the laminate floor seemed clean but clearly hadn’t been actually cleaned in a while... by now we were ready to get out and hit the road and to find somewhere else for her to catch up on her potty break to avoid any more goat heads.
conclusion… initially seemed nice. if not for traveling with the dog would have been “ok” and probably 3-4 bones instead. - TraceyAug 7, 2021Not pleasant
Roaches everywhere, had to remove 5 large dead from room. Plus some small got in room in the morning. Can’t go anywhere without them, even in breakfast place. I do live in Texas so used to seeing roaches but not this bad. Also not very dog friendly as the only place to potty is covered in stickers. Might I add, the worst stickers I’ve seen anywhere. My dogs were covered and in pain. Place is very tired and needs a good scrub and updating. Ok wasn’t overly expensive however pay the extra $60 and stay somewhere else.

First of all we believe that the Hotel Vernon is the best accommodation in Vernon. Dog friendly, decent sized clean room with basic breakfast included. Price is reasonable and the stopover here works well whilst in transit on the tedious journey from Texas to a vacation spot in the Rockies.

The hotel is actually motel style. The staff is very friendly and cares that you have a good stay. The rooms are being remodeled. It was a basic room, clean and comfortable, but with the pet fee it was just over $100 which seems overpriced for that room. There is grass in back and on the side for dogs but pack your own poop bags.

Great stay. Easily parked my 26' moving truck with towed car. Lots of pets, and the staff take it in stride. They made the effort to have a COVID-friendly breakfast instead of just cancelling the breakfast outright. Good entertainment and right off the highway.

Check-in was friendly, efficient and accommodating. Low pet fee of only $10. Nice, clean room with comfy bed. I've never written a review but felt this place deserved a good one!
