    Beware

I have two dogs that I’ve taken to Camp Bow Wow a few times over the last several weeks. Although they are pricier than some of the other daycares, the selling point for me was the cameras to be able to watch my dogs. Today, I was looking at the cameras like I do periodically every time they’re there. At this time there were no dogs in any play yard, indoors or out. I thought maybe something had happened, and they had to do a clean up because it looks like the floors had just been mopped. So I walked to wait for a little bit and came back about a half an hour later and they were still no dogs. I gave it 15 more minutes and then observed probably more than a dozen staff members in the dog yards, playing games! Not a dog in sight. I decided to call at that point. Of course, as usual, I cannot get a hold of anybody in the office. The answering service answered and said they would get a message to them and have them call me back. I’ve had to leave messages several times with the message center and I don’t ever get return calls. I gave it a little bit longer, still no call back, and still no dogs on cameras. So I decided to go down there and find out where my dogs were. I asked the woman at the front desk where my dogs were and she said, “Oh we had a staff meeting.” I then asked her where my dogs were and she said, “We had a staff meeting.” I said, “Where are my dogs? Are my dogs in a kennel?” And she said, “Yes we put all the dogs in the kennel because we have a staff meeting from 11 to 1.” I was incredulous. I said, “You put my dog in a kennel? This is not what I am paying for!” This is the same woman, who greeted us on our first day for our interview. At that interview, I explained that one of my dogs had been severely abused before I got him, and he had been abused in a kennel and could not be put in a kennel! Ever. I was told that was not a problem because they don’t put dogs in kennels, they are out playing in the play yards at all times. And here we are, my poor dog locked in a kennel. And this woman said, “We’re literally getting them out right now.” It is now 1:20 at this point. I said, “That’s not the point. The point is, that I’m paying for them to play at daycare, not be put in a kennel. I could’ve locked them in a kennel at home, I am paying you to let them have supervised play time.” And then I mentioned, that I saw the humans playing games on camera, and she said, “Yes, it’s a team building exercise and we literally only have these meetings once a quarter.” And I again told her that that’s not what I am paying for, and if that was the case, I could’ve been explained that when I dropped my dogs off and had the choice whether or not I wanted to put them in a kennel for 2 1/2+ hours. When the whole point of daycare is to keep them out of a kennel! So, I told her I didn’t feel like I should have to pay for those hours that they were in the kennel. And then she went and got somebody who she I think said was the owner, I’m not sure because that owner woman didn’t say a single word to me. She gave me 10% off, which did not come near covering 2 1/2+ hours, but whatever. I paid and got out of there and my dogs will never, ever, ever go back to Camp Bow Wow.
