Entry Requirements

Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Brazil with your pet:
  • Brazil is a high risk country for rabies. Before receiving an import permit, travelers must obtain 2 pictures of their pet's front teeth, a CDC Rabies Vaccination and Microchip Record (attached), a serologic titer from an approved laboratory and a passport photo of the owner. Once these items are obtained, apply for a permit for your pet to return to the U.S. at this link. For further guidance on returning to the U.S. with your pet from a high risk country, contact the CDC directly at cdcanimalimports@cdc.gov
  • Obtain an International Health Certificate for animals issued by a licensed veterinarian 10 days before departure. The certificate must confirm that no incidence of contagious disease has been detected in the place of origin up to forty days before departure.
  • Visitors with pets also need a certificate of vaccination against rabies for any animal over 90 days old (obtained 30 days before entry in the case of animals vaccinated for the first time). This must be valid for at least one year.
  • Documents showing the animals name, breed, gender, size, color, coat and any other specific markings.
  • Brazil might not accept animals previously diagnosed with leishmaniosis.
