Entry Requirements
Complete the following entry requirements to travel to Germany with your pet:
- Pets must be identified by an ISO-compliant microchip. If the microchip is not ISO-compliant, you must bring your own scanner to read the microchip.
- Obtain a valid health certificate within 10 days from a licensed veterinarian if traveling from the United States or an EU Pet Passport if traveling to Germany from elsewhere in the EU.
- Pets must be vaccinated against rabies at least 21 days prior to travel into Germany. Proof of valid immunization against rabies must be recorded in the animal health certificate.
- Dogs must receive a deworming treatment against Echinococcus tapeworm between 24 and 120 hours (1 to 5 days) before entering Germany, unless traveling directly from Malta, Ireland, or Norway.
- You can only enter Germany with a pet if you are the owner or a designated person is responsible for them and provide a declaration in writing stating that the pet travel is not intended for sale or a change of hands.
- The maximum number of companion animals (dogs, cats and/or ferrets) that may accompany the owner or authorized person must not exceed five unless the pets are traveling for the purpose of participating in competitions or sporting events, the owner provides written evidence of registration for the event, and the pets are over 6 months old.
Quarantine Information
Pets traveling to Germany do not need to be quarantined if they meet all the necessary requirements listed above.
