Nice park, but not fully friendly

Some trails are good, but gotta watch for those little pricklies in their paws and the pier is off-limit.

    Love camping here!

We love myrtle Beach, my only gripe is I wish there were off leash areas, we still have a blast every time we come though we camp at the state park, clean restrooms and a well equipped camp store, food lion just around the corner and great nature trails right there. We love it here

    A regular walk spot

We have an sc park pass bc there are multiple parks within 30 minutes of MB. We regularly go here on Mondays when bark park south is closed until 11 for maintenance. In the summers dogs are allowed on the beach before 10, and early in the day is is usually empty or very sparsely populated. There is a nice wooden boardwalk for those who want to see the ocean but not go onto the sand, with 4-5 outdoor showers/taps for washing off sand and filling up a dog bowl (bring your own) and there are benches at these locations. There are also multiple picnic shelters. The shop that goes to the pier has ice cream and nice gifts, as well as fishing equipment for the pier, but dogs are not allowed on the pier or in the shop except in service capacity.

There are a nice variety of trails, plenty of open fields, lots of shaded wooded areas and the shelters in the woods do have water taps and fountains as well. There is a wilderness learning center for kids and trails with marked info about different plants and species. Ample parking and wonderful campgrounds. Staff is all very helpful and polite ime.

Please make sure to pack bug spray, sunscreen, a water bowl for your pup and bags to ean up after them. Also bc of the swamplands native to the area and some naturally occurring standing water I definitely recommend that you have your dog vaccinated for the bacterial/waterborne parasites and upto date on heartworm medications. And absolutely bathe them after any entrance into water here in Myrtle, be it ocean, still or fresh. Our sewer systems are below par and that is not something you want lingering on your dog. That said I do still let my dog regularly swim and he has never had issues, but he is utd on Vax and preventative and is always bathed after doing so. :)

Support the state parks! Keep them beautiful.

    Great trip

We are avid road trippers but we’ve never taken our pups on an overnight stay with us. We decided to take a two-night camping trip with our senior dog and puppy - and had a wonderful time! It is an extremely pet friendly location. The trails were enjoyable and the campsites were all shaded. We will definitely be back.

    Great Beach

Wonderful beach! Had a blast! Just wish it was a dog beach all year round! $5 a person to get in so the beach isn’t too crowded.

    Perfect Beach for Dog Owners

We stayed at the park for three nights in late June. Really enjoyed being able to let the dogs play on the beach before 10 AM and after 5 PM. That was enough to keep our active dogs very happy and well behaved on our beach vacation. I was surprised at the quality of the beach and the campground. We were able to throw their toys into the water and let them swim out to get them off leash without anyone having an issue with it. Also occasionally through the tennis ball down the beach for some fetch when no one else was in the area. Dogs were happy and so were we!

    Nice place to take dogs

We visited in Sept. 2013. There are lots of dogs in the campground but you would never know it! It is a very pet friendly campground and park. The main reason that I am writing the review is because the Beach Pet Policy has changed and the information above is incorrect. Currently this is the beach policy:

Horry County Ordinance states that animals are not allowed on the beach from 10 am to 5 pm from May 1 through Labor Day. Owners are responsible for the clean up of any animal refuse."

I don't know who updates the descriptions but someone should as it would be a shame to plan your visit around the pet policy and then arrive to find it has changed. Anyway, our English Bulldog loved the beach & the campground. And an added bonus is that the Barc Parc is just on the other side of the road on US17 not far from the state park. So, if your pet needs to run off leash for a bit this is a great place to take them. It is a huge park, clean, and also has a lake if they want to take a dip.

Beautiful natural state park beach in SC

We're snow birds immigrated to Myrtle Beach for the winter. We took our two dogs to MB State Park every morning. They had a great time walking/running on the beach and chasing the seagulls. It was a great place to spend the day and where our dogs truly enjoyed it.

    Great time

Beautiful Beach that is very dog and people friendly. We took our 50lb Flat Coated, Lady Godiva and she loved it. All of the park, except the pier, is open to dogs on the lead. There were not many people there on March 21st. She played in the water and chased the gulls. We saw other dogs, everywhere in Myrtle Beach, very pet friendly.
