Mackinac Island

Leashed dogs are welcome to join you on pet-friendly Mackinac Island in Michigan. There are no cars on the island, so horse and buggy rides, bikes, and Fido's four paws are the only way around. You'll find excellent trails and outdoor restaurants throughout the island to enjoy with Fido. Humans must clean up after pups. Dog owners can visit Shepler's Ferry for information on a dog-friendly ferry ride to the island. Visit Website

    The dog-friendliest!

Everywhere we went (outdoors) was dog friendly, and there were so many other dogs, too. Even the fort allowed dogs! It looked like the bike rental places even had dog-ferrying bikes!

Great Place, But Beware the Canon!

A great place to walk and check out the local shops. The scenery is beautiful and the people are nice. Some shops allow dogs, and even leave water bowls out front for them. I will warn you that every so often a canon at one of the forts is fired, which scared the heck out of the dogs. If you’re looking for somewhere to let the dogs run, turtle park is a good spot if it isn’t too crowded. There are also plenty of trails to get off the beaten path.
