  Beautiful trail

  it’s a beautiful trail for the humans and dogs. we enjoyed it very much . too bad we couldn’t make it all the way in to see the arch.

  Give It A Try!

  I almost didn’t do this hike based off of the reviews about it being difficult with a larger dog in the slick rock and ladder section. I told myself we would go as far as we could even if it wasn’t to the arch. so glad I did! I was able to get my 56# pound dog though that section using his harness. He is a younger athletic dog though. We went later in the afternoon and evening, so there was enough shade in spots for us to rest and drink water. Because I was not able to hike in Arches with a dog, this hike fulfilled the want of being under an arch. On this trail I was able to see two arches (Corona and Bow tie) then we went back and did the trail to Pinto arch. There were a couple of tricky areas with Pinto trail but easily doable for us. I would do this hike again in a heartbeat! I only gave 4 dog bones because of the tricky part and needing more confidence with a small or athletic abled dog to complete the hike.

  Take lots of water

  Really enjoyed it! We stopped frequently for water and used a “chill out” scarf even with going early. We went around the ladder portion but the incline with chain was tough for my pup. I had to hold on to him and help him up with one hand/knee while holding on to the chain with the other. over all it was great views and a nice challenge.

  Can you carry your dog?

  I hiked this trail with my favorite trail buddy, Cocoa Puffs. She is a lab/border collie and weighs approximately 50#. She is very agile and is always up for an adventure. We did not have any difficulty with the trail until we got to the vertical slickrock section. Cocoa Puffs jumped up and got about 1/3 of the way up the face before sliding backwards. I was afraid she’d get hurt if she slide all the way back down, so I grabbed her harness and was able to help her up the vertical face. We continued on the trail by walking around the ladder section.
  Bottom line: if you can’t help carry your dog up this section-you may want to choose another of the many trails in the area. I’ve posted a picture of this section in the photos.

  Only pet friendly for agile dogs

  We hiked early in the morning. The trail is technical at the start but gets easier once we got to the top of the hill from the parking lot. We had easy slick rock hiking conditions until we were close to the arch. There is a vertical section where foot holds have been carved out of the sandstone and a cable has been installed as a railing. Our 3-year-old Lab wasn’t able to climb the vertical, her paws kept slipping. Climbing up is usually easier than coming down and we didn’t want to risk a fall so my husband and Lexi admired the arch from a distance while I climbed up to get photos. There is a ladder after you climb the vertical section. You can bypass the ladder by scrambling up the rocks to the left. An agile dog with some momentum should be able to climb to the arch. There were dogs up there. We also saw another hiker have to turn back with his dog.

  Great hike

  Go at sunset if you can. Challenging at times but you can do it!

  Hiking Adventure

  This hike was beautiful, but i definitely would not consider it dog friendly if you have a very big dog that can't be carried. There is some very steep areas on the slick rock and it can be very difficult to navigate up or down it with your dog safely.

  For The Adventure Dog

  We loved this hike. It was pretty low traffic at 10 am on a Wed in October. It wasn’t too long, but it was enough of a challenge. Note: there are two possible issues. First the rope, my dogs slide a little but I helped them up a very steep area that has a rope. The way down was more challenged but we got low and made it slow and steady. Second, the ladder. There is an area around the ladder to the left that was totally doable. Overall we loved the hike and would recommend it.

  Beautiful Sceneries, Not Great For Bigger Dogs

  We traveled trough Moab, Ut in early June. Temperatures increase rapidly during the day so we decided to go on a hike really early in the morning. The first half of the hike was great! We found a nice shady area to rest in too. Once we got close to the Arch, things got a lot more difficult. There is an area with a rope were people need to hold on to climb up, this was impossible for Levi who isn't very agile. Then there is a ladder, which was impossible for both dogs. We ended up stopping there and resting while admiring the arch from afar. For a smaller dog that can be carried, this wouldn't have been a problem.
