I have hiked up this trail several times. If you know some of the early history of the slide, the natural dam and the lake, which has since become non-existent due to the lake finally washing out the Muir Creek Trail side of the dam.
I am old and overweight. Some of the climbs left me a little out of breath. But that was my fault, not the trail's. The box canyon at the end of the trail leaves a lot to the imagination. Someday, I want to rent a helicopter and overview the entire area. Devil's Slide is unbelievable. It is as though God took a sharp knife and cut the face of the mountain off and and slid it down into the Muir Creek valley. Even in July, the water was ice cold....literally. My son and my business partner climbed the cliffs across from Devil's Slide. i couldn't make it. But, they found an incredible ice bridge across some rock outcrops. I wish they would have had a camera with them.
It is a beautiful day trip for the entire family. Have fun.
