    Leashed pets?

Don't expect to see many dogs on leashes here. It is a free-for-all for unleashed dogs and clueless dog owners.

    Love it!

Beautiful sand, water - people are chill. This is a place to go if you love the beach and simply want to bring your dog. It is NOT a dog park that just happens to be on a beach - that would be Jupiter; where dogs run amuck, off-leash while their owners seem oblivious sitting around getting LIT and letting their dogs do whatever. If you prefer the order and peace of mind of being around people who are actually paying attention to their dogs and simply enjoying an afternoon at the beach - go to Lauderdale's Cannine Beach. It is lovely.

    A Good Time

My mom brought me here because there was a dog event at a restaurant close by and she wants me to like the beach as well. I don't like the beach but I can tell you that a lot of dogs were loving it. I read the reviews and it's the owners who seem to have a problem with the arrangement. We found parking and yes you have to pay to park but it's the beach, seems normal to me. The hours were fine for us since we had so many other great things to do before we got here. I didn't step in any pups mess and neither did my mom, so it was pretty clean. I don't know exactly where we were suppose to be but there seemed to be plenty of room for me and many pup friends to play and run around in. There were more of us off our leashes than on and I didn't see anyone being told to leash us. We didn't pay for a permit but would be happy to if we knew where. I'm sure they will be happy as well to inform us where if they ever stop us. We'll be back whether I like it or not or as my mom says, I'll learn to like it, it's worth it!

    Seriously? 0 Bones!!!!!

Seriously? There are no beaches that you can take your dog to in Fort Lauderdale Florida? Oh wait there’s this tiny area that you have to pay to park then you have to pay to take your dog to a beach area set up with cones as markers as to how far away you can go with your dog I am doubting it’s even half a mile. This is my first trip to Fort Lauderdale and I definitely will not be returning don’t get me wrong it’s not only the dog thing but that really set me off! Why can’t you take your dog on the beach this is the only beach I have ever been to that you can’t take your dog on the beach. I’m used to going to the Outer Banks the people are so friendly and relaxed Everybody loved my bear he walked around on a leash with me up-and-down the beach for miles no one harassed us we didn’t have to pay, I have to say maybe I’m not too well traveled but this is definitely the most ridiculous Thing I’ve ever heard of. Come on down to the beach and pay to park and pay to walk your dog on a tiny area of the OCEAN. And the hours-it’s not even available every day only on the weekends only in the evenings??? Yeah because that’s The only time I take my dog For a walk on the weekends between five and nine On my vacation.

Best Time for both owner and dog

I keep seeing all these negative reviews about Canine Beach in Fort Lauderdale. Well I say if you don’t like it go somewhere else, more fun for me and the dog owners that really enjoy it. My dog loves it, she runs, plays and swims with all the other dogs with no problems. Owners pick up after their dogs and we all kindly give a heads up to each other if our dogs are doing the deed and we didn’t see it. I find more beach goers leaving garbage and food they brought to the beach on the beach then I do dog deposits. The times have been adjusted to after 3pm year-round Friday, Saturday and Sunday. I’ve been to Jupiter beach in fact was there last weekend, it was so busy with people also people fishing off the shore that there really wasn’t room for the dogs to really have fun without running all over the people. Don’t get me wrong, I will still go but know that 11am-3pm its really busy. I know this is long and thanks for reading my rant. Make it a great day!

    Great Beach!

I've been reading some of the negative reviews of FTL dog beach and I really don't know why there are so many negative reviews.

I've been going almost every weekend since November last year and the beach is great. The city moved the 'dog beach' more to the north from where it used to be. It's now much larger being located between life guard towers 15 and 16. The official rule is that dogs have to be on a leash but everyone has their dog off leash and there has never been a problem. A permit is required to have your dog on the beach but it's easy to get and not expensive. The city has even gone so far as to make as easy as paying for parking for a weekend pass. The two parking paymeters located between life guard towers 15 & 16 accept payment for an all weekend pass for $7.
As for the hours: Currently in the summer the hours are 3pm to 7pm Fri, Sat & Sun.
I think the city has done a great job! Well done FTL!

    Great dog beach

My dog loves it here. You do need a permit and have to pay to park, so it can be a little pricy as far as dog beaches go. But the dogs, their owners, and the enoforcement officer have all been great every time I've gone.

Where do our Broward Taxes Actually Go?

We know they aren't going to enhance the personal and professional lives of taxpayers and their families. We have to pay parking and entrance to a tiny portion of a beach, for our four-legged children to enjoy the company of others on the beach?!?.

Even loooooooong time head of Tourism, Nicki E. Grossman who makes approximately $200K, plus benefits and perks per year, doesn't meet the need of visitors with dogs. I've had it with Ft. Lauderdale. My dog and I are moving and going to pay taxes in a place we love and loves us: Jupiter.

    Just go to Jupiter

seriously, the hours and fees were enough to make me say wth so I ventured up to Jupiter where they have a 2 and 1/2 mile stretch for dogs. It's super clean, off leash and all of the people are pretty cool because they chose the be in that area whether they have dogs or not. I love it and it's well worth the trip!

    Come on Lauderdale

Fort Lauderdale needs a real dog beach. Large area, Off-leash, good hours. Sad that only Jupiter has a real dog beach in all of S. FL east coast.

    Way out of touch...

How many people own dogs in South Florida....more people have dogs than kids. And yet there are no areas to take your dog for a long walk on the beach...so out of touch!
Go to the west coast of Florida if you own a dog and want to visit a beach or if you want to really see a dog friendly state go to California.
Living in Fort Lauderdale is great...as long as you don't bring your dog to the beach, very sad.

    Bad Hours/No fun

Not dog friendly at all. The only time you can take your dog is Friday -Sat-Sunday But this is not the worse of it. THE TIME IS the worse of it. FROM 5PM TO 9 PM COME ON. We have dinners, shows to attend at those times when you are on vacation. and what if you there on a Tues-Weds V-cation.. Plus you like to be out on the water when it is hot out and cool off and your pet.and enjoy the sun and beach fun.. not hide away till after 5. We could not find anyone around to even see about a pass at all. I was told when I called that people were not cleaning up after their dogs> Well, what is the difference are they going to clean up after there dogs any better from 5 to 9, Doubt it. We have several dog beaches in Tampa bay area including Fort Desota beach. This is a wonderful dog beach and dog owners and the park keep it clean and so beautiful. You have a lot to learn Fort Lauderdale.. will not be back soon. Was not pleased with what you so call a dog Beach .UMMMMMMM. Please get with it.

    and everyone keep it beautiful.

    Only Game In Town

This is the only place you can bring your dog in Fort Lauderdale where s/he can swim in the ocean without being harrassed. You must have a ~$30/year dog permit and stay between the cones. The hours and days are restrictive. From web site:
Days: Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays only
Winter Hours: 3 pm to 7 pm
Summer Hours: 5 pm to 9 pm (during Daylight Savings Time)
We stopped going because of dog fights...

    Nice place

The fees are a bit off- google "canine beach fort lauderdale"- supposedly they have to be on leash but lots are off. We go often and nice and clean. Love it!

    A really nice time

I just discovered this by accident today -- about a dozen dogs playing happily on the sand and in the waves right where Sunrise Blvd meets the water. There is a park ranger there who very cordially asked to see passes. A very friendly vibe.
